Diego Ferreira Explains How He’s Improved From His Recent Losses

January 30, 2016 | Posted by Jeffrey Harris

UFC lightweight fighter Diego Ferreira recently spoke about his upcoming fight (via MMAjunkie) with Olivier Aubin- Mercier at UFC on FOX 18. The two are set to face off on the fight card later today. Below are some highlights.

Ferreira on learning form his losses: “My career has a lot of promise. I learned a lot. I entered the UFC at 9-0. … Against Dustin Poirier, more recently, he was well prepared. He came with a solid boxing base and managed a knockout. Live and learn. While I’m still in the UFC, I’ll keep my head high, and fight one more time. Who knows what the future holds. I’m very confident about what’s ahead for me.”

On his loss to Beneil Dariush and Dustin Poirier: “I had three weeks to make weight against Dariush. And against Poirier, he’s a ranked fighter, but I took on that challenge, too. I think the UFC saw my willingness to fight and my potential. That made the difference. It makes me happy that they recognize my work and trust in me. So I’ll give my best to remain in the promotion.”

On his ground game: “I enjoy ground fighting. I know he’s very strong, but I think that my jiu-jitsu is much better than his. I think I’m better prepared. … I know we’ll have a good fight. He has some strong points, so we’re working on that. The goal is to keep the right distance and to have effective strikes. I’m going after him, any way I can.”

Ferreira on wanting to improve his game: “I simply want to become a much better fighter. I’m looking to win this and the next fight so I can have a good year. I hope to stay very busy so I can reach my goals.”
