Anthony Pettis Aiming to Be a Two-Division Champion After UFC on FOX 21 Win
Anthony Pettis spoke at last night’s press conference (via MMAjunkie) after his win over Charles Oliveira. Some highlights are below:
On ending his losing streak: “I had a rough patch – three fights in a row, I wasn’t used to that. I had two losses my entire career then going three back-to-back, I had some soul searching to do. What drives me? What makes me want to do this? I went through a lot of stuff. I have to thank my family, my girlfriend. Everyone around me that just kept me focused and just made me keep pushing. We pushed through, we got a new division, a new goal – two division champ – and that’s what I’ve set out to do.”
On his weight cut: “It wasn’t that hard actually. The last two pounds was the difficult part. The last two pounds was gruesome and I had some guys in my corner that just pushed me to get it done. I think 45 – I was supposed to fight Jose Aldo at 145 – that was back before I fought Ben Henderson. 145 is an option I’ve explored. I felt comfortable in there. I made some adjustments leading up to the fight, my nutrition was on point. I felt good.”
