Albert Finney Passes Away at 82
Per Variety, five-time Academy Award nominee Albert Finney has sadly passed away. He was 82 years old. Finney reportedly died after a “short illness.”
The celebrated actor started his work on the stage before transitioning to the screen in the 1960s with such films as Saturday Night and Sunday Morning and Tom Jones. While he was only nominated for Best Actor with Tom Jones, the film went on to win Best Picture and Best Director.
Finney’s other prominent roles include 1990’s Miller’s Crossing, 2000’s Erin Brockovich, 2004’s Big Fish for director Tim Burton, 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum, and 2012’s Skyfall. In 2002, he portrayed Winston Churchill for the BBC-HBO biopic The Gathering Storm, which earned him an Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Lead Actor.
Finney also received Oscar nominations for Erin Brockovich, Under the Volcano, The Dresser, and Murder on the Orient Express, where he portrayed Hercule Poirot.
Albert Finney was born in Salford, Greater Manchester, England and graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He was married three time. First to British actress Jane Wenham, and second to French actross Anouk Aimee. Finney is survived by his third wife, Pene Delmage, who he married in 2006; his son, Simon Finney, from his marriage to Jane Wenham; and his son Declan from his relationship with Katherine Attson.
