Kit Harington Checked Into Rehab Before Game of Thrones’ Finale Aired
Kit Harington entered a rehab facility weeks before the Game of Thrones series finale aired. The New York Post reports that Harington, who played Jon Snow on the HBO series, entered a facility in Connecticut to take care of his mental health several weeks ago and has been there for almost a month, seeking treatment for stress and alcohol abuse.
The site reports that Harington’s wife Rose Leslie, who played Ygritte on the show, has been very supportive of his decision. Harington was said to be “hit hard” by the show coming to an end. He has been doing psychological coaching, meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy to deal with the stress that followed the show’s end. One resident at the facility told the site, “Kit looks really good and appears to be very focused on his health and wellness. I have personally seen him out in the community many times. I think it’s wonderful that he is taking time to take care of himself – more people should.”
Harington has spoken about the mental struggles that being on the high-profile show caused him, telling Variety that the show’s middle era “wasn’t a very good time in my life. I felt I had to feel that I was the most fortunate person in the world when actually, I felt very vulnerable. I had a shaky time in my life around there — like I think a lot of people do in their 20s. My darkest period was when the show seemed to become so much about Jon when he died and came back. I really didn’t like the focus of the whole show coming onto Jon. When you become the cliffhanger of a TV show, and a TV show probably at the height of its power, the focus on you is f—–g terrifying. That was a time when I started therapy and started talking to people. I had felt very unsafe, and I wasn’t talking to anyone.”
Harington’s reps told TMZ that the star “has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues.”
