Rian Johnson Developing Knives Out Sequel
Knives Out is the sleeper hit of 2019, and now it has a sequel in the works. Writer-director Rian Johnson told THR at the Lionsgate pre-Golden Globes party that he is at work on a sequel to the murder mystery whodunit that will center on Daniel Craig’s detective Benoit Blanc.
Johnson told the site that he is looking to make the film quickly, hopefully within the next year. Johnson’s producing partner Ram Bergman said that Craig was up for reprising his role, saying, “Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more.”
Knives Out has been big money for Lionsgate, with a gross so far of $130.3 million domestically and $234.9 million worldwide against a budget of just $40 million. The film features Craig’s Blanc as he investigates the death of a famous writer at his birthday party, navigating a web of the writer’s toxic relatives and their issues to get to the truth.
Lionsgate hasn’t greenlit the sequel, but it seems to be a given considering the film’s grosses.
