T.J. Miller Won’t Work With Ryan Reynolds Again, Says Reynolds ‘Hates’ Him

T.J. Miller co-starred with Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool, but says he’s not returning for the upcoming third film and he won’t work with Reynolds again. Miller played Weasel in the first film, and during an appearance on the Adam Carolla Show (per EW) said that Reynolds doesn’t like him and was “horrifically mean” to him on the set of the first film.
Miller has his own controversial past that would have made him unlikely for a return anyway; he was accused of sexual assault in 2017 which he denied, and of unprofessional behavior on the set of Silicon Valley, which he was reportedly fired from. He was also arrested for allegedly making a fake bomb threat on an Amtrak train in 2018.
You can check out some highlights from his discussion of Reynolds below:
On Reynolds’ behavior on the set of Deadpool: “As the character, he was, like, horrifically mean to me. But to me. As if I’m Weasel. He was like, ‘You know what’s great about you, Weasel? You’re not the star, but you do just enough exposition that it’s funny, and then we can leave and get back to the real movie.’ I just kind of listened and thought it was weird, and then I got off stage because they were like, ‘Cut…?'”
On if he’d work with Reynolds again: “Would I work with him again? No. I would not work with him again. I sorta wish him well because he’s so good at Deadpool, and I think it’s weird that he hates me.”
On Reynolds changing: “He’s such a good comedian that, when you cover his face, he’s so quick, he’s so funny. I love him as a comedian, but I think after he got super, super famous from the first Deadpool, then things kinda changed. I think he was like, ‘See? You guys see?'”
On not being interested in returning for the third film: “I don’t really think you should do something for more than five years,” he said. “I think it’s weird to just go back and play Weasel 10 years later. I don’t wish them any ill will. I think [Reynolds] should make a Deadpool 3 and continue to make movies. I just think he doesn’t like me, and I thought it was weird how he expressed that.”
