HBO, Max Announce Multiyear Streaming Window Deal With A24
A24’s films like The Iron Claw, Everything Everywhere All at Once and more are headed to Max, HBO and Cinemax in a new multiyear deal. Warner Bros. Discovery announced on Wednesday that they’ve signed a deal with A24 to bring the studio’s theatrical slate exclusively to the three brands in a pay-1 US deal. The deal includes films like the aforementioned Iron Claw, Priscilla, Dream Scenaro, Dicks: The Musical and more.
Pay-1 is the earliest window that a film will come to subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services; in other words, the earliest streaming window after films have generally had a release for digital purchase or rent. There are generally multiple SVOD exclusive windows to go through before they will ultimately arrive on ad-supported TV or the like.
In addition, the two companies extended their licensing deal to continue bringing A24’s library films to HBO and Max. That will give the platfroms over 100 A24 titles including Everything Everywhere All at Once, Uncut Gems, The Whale, and Past Lives.
“Continuing our relationship with A24 to bring award-winning movies alongside recent fan-favorites to subscribers adds incredible value to the HBO and Max value proposition,” said Royce Battleman, EVP, Content Acquisitions, Warner Bros. Discovery. “The diverse range of stories that come from the A24 pipeline make this partnership so impactful for our audience.”
The new deal comes as A24’s license with Showtime expired in November.
