Marvel TV Head Explains Return of Marvel Television Banner, Reason For Rebrand
Marvel has brought back the Marvel Television banner, and the company’s TV head recently explained how they’re trying to help make watching Marvel shows feel less like homework. The Marvel Television banner was revealed to be returning during the Disney upfronts last week, and will be in front of live-action shows Agatha All Along, Daredevil: Born Again, and Ironheart.
Marvel Studios Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation Brad Winderbaum spoke with ComicBook.com and said that the rebrand is to promote returning their TV series to a state where fans can jump in without having seen everything that preceded them.
“We want to make sure that Marvel stays an open door for people to come in and explore,” Winderbaum said. “On the heels of [Avengers: Endgame], I think there was, maybe, a little bit of an obligation to watch absolutely everything in order to watch anything.”
He added, “As you know, as a comics fan, they’re designed to just pop in, find something that you like, and use that to enter you into the universe, and then you can explore and weave around based on your own preferences. So part of the rebranding of Marvel Studios, Marvel Television, Marvel Animation, even Marvel Spotlight is to, I think, try to tell the audience, ‘You can jump in anywhere. They’re interconnected, but they’re not. You don’t have to watch A to enjoy B. You can follow your bliss. You can follow your own preferences and find the thing you want within the tapestry of Marvel.'”
The Marvel Television banner was done away with back in 2019 when the TV arm was folded into Marvel Studios. Agatha All Along will be the first new series under the banner and, as reported, will premiere on September 18th.
