The Hardys are a few months removed from their last match with The Dudleyz at TNA Bound For Glory, and Matt remains incredibly proud of the bout. The TNA World Tag Team Champions battled their longtime rivals for the last time at Bound For Glory in October. The match proved to be D-Von’s last match and potentially Bully Ray’s, as they both handed the Hardys their boots after the bout.

The Hardys appeared on the Direct Discussions Podcast to promote TNA Impact’s AMC debut this week as well as Genesis. During the conversation, they were asked about the match and if it’s made them think of their eventual retirement match. You can see the highlights below:

On The Match Making People Think About Their Eventual Retirements:

“You know, it’s funny. So many people are saying that now. They’re like, ‘Oh my god, the Hardys’ retirement match could be this. It could be that.’ Like I don’t — we don’t even really think about that right now, you know what I mean? We both feel good… We’re just doing our thing. You know, we knew D-Von couldn’t wrestle anymore, and he got healthy enough that he could have this one match. And we went out there and and we worked as hard as we could to make that match special.

“And it really was. I mean, being in that in that venue, was the North American attendance record for TNA, it was amazing. Because the crowd was entirely emotionally invested into the match from beginning to end. We came out there, they started chanting. We had to start the match so the crowd stopped chanting. And it’s so great when the crowd is so into your match like that. It’s amazing. And the Dudleys, they worked as hard as they possibly could. And I’m very, very proud of the match we had. There’s so many people that have watched that.”

On the Importance Of the Match To Them:

“There’s been a lot of people that have told me that’s their favorite match that they’ve ever seen. That’s their favorite match of all time. Especially the ending, once we beat them and Bubba just said ‘I’m tired, I have to go.’ And he’s like, ‘Fine just — you know, I’ll die on the sword.’ We put them through the table, they take off their boots and they give them to us.

“We didn’t know they were going to do that. So, that was even more emotional that that was happening. We knew that D-Von was retiring, but we had no idea that they were both going to go ahead and take off the boots and and give them to us.”
