Paul Wight says that he has a couple of dream matches he’d like to do in AEW. Wight hasn’t competed since 2024, but he’s said that he’s hoping to get back in the ring after undergoing back surgery.
Wight spoke with James Sweetnam for Sporf and was asked about his dream matchups in AEW. He said he’d like to work with both Kenny Omega and Darby Allin and specifically face Allin as a heel. You can see highlights below:
On His Dream Matchups In AEW:
“Yeah, actually I do. I have two people in AEW that I would love to work with or against. One is Kenny Omega. In all the years that Kenny and I have been up and down the [road] we’ve never had a chance to be in the ring together as a team or as opponents. I would love to see something like that happen before I retire.
“And I would also like to do the same with Darby. I love Darby, I think Darby is — no pun intended, but he’s tougher than a coffin nail. Like, he’s a tough kid. He’s a good kid, he works hard. His heart’s in the right place. I think he’s a little bit fearless on some of the stuff he does, I want to pull him aside like, ‘Hey man, cut the brakes a little bit.’ But you know, they’re young, they’re going to go wide open. And I respect Derby for that.”
On Potentially Facing Allin As a Heel:
“I would love to be a bad guy and wrestle Derby. I think we could really get a lot of visceral emotion from the crowds, to see a big giant sling Darby’s guts all over the place. And then of course we’d have Darby hit me with a couple of Coffin Drops and roll me in a casket, and that’s the end of it. That would be fun.”
