Hey kids! Steve Cook here with you for the next episode of WWE NXT on the CW! Tonight is all about setting up contenders for championships, there’s also a title match and a pageant booked so it should be a good time!
If you already subscribe to the 411MANIA Wrestling Newsletter, earlier today you received some of my thoughts on Money in the Bank moving to October, Chad Gable’s potential future & Danhausen cursing evil hockey teams. If you don’t already subscribe, do so right now! Yes, before we get to the show because if you’re like me you won’t remember to do this a minute from now.
If you’d like to chime in with your own thoughts on tonight’s show, feel free to join your fellow 411 Maniacs down in the comment section! As the legendary Larry Csonka always said: Have fun and don’t be a dick. When I’m not here you can catch me on social media from time to time. To be honest, e-mail is a better option and you can reach me at [email protected].
Then. Now. Forever. Together!
We start the show hyping up the Great American Bash in three weeks, which will be set up by #1 contender matches tonight. Mason Rook & Naraku are WALKING! We’re live in Orlando’s PC!
Noam Dar & Romeo Moreno vs. Fraxiom (Brendan Frazer & Axiom): Dar& Axiom work holds right away. Some back & forth, Dar with a backslide for two. Moreno tags in. Frazer tags in as well. They go back & forth, Dar tags back in. Frazer with a kick to Dar, some tags & Axiom gets kicked out of the ring. Romeo dives onto both of his opponents. Dar does the same thing.
We go to Non-Stop NXT! Fraxiom get the upper hand, Frazer works Romeo over. That keeps going on at this point in the lesser screen. Nothing too interesting going on, then we go back full-screen. Romeo tags in, goes all ham, kick off the ropes gets two. Dar takes Axiom into an armbar, that gets broken up. Fraxiom dives onto their opponents on the outside, a missile dropkick off the top gets two. The fans think it’s awesome. Ankle locks all around! Romeo gets kicked up top, gets superplexed off the top, gets broken up, Fraxiom can’t communicate. Dar & Moreno hit a double team for two. Moreno dives into a superkick on the floor. Fraxiom hits a couple of big moves for the three count.
Winners: Fraxiom (13:18 via pinfall)
Wren Sinclar goes off to talk to Robert Stone, then Lola Vice appears to talk to Kendal Grey.
Sarah Schrieber introduces us to the Mr. NXT pageant. Aaron Rourke, Kit Wilson & Matt Matthews are our judges.
Mr. NXT Pageant: Tristian Angels vs. Shiloh Hill: I’ve never reviewed a beauty pageant before, so I’m not sure how to handle this. Do the individual performers get stars? Does the whole pageant get stars? Tristian has the early advantage based off what the judges are saying. I have zero opinion on what I saw but the judges sure did.
NXT Championship #1 Contender Match: Mason Rook vs. Naraku: Tieup into the corner, Naraku with the headlock. Rook runs Naraku over. Squashes him in the corner, hits a senton for two. Naraku fights back. Big slam from Naraku, we go to Non-Stop NXT!
Naraku keeps the upper hand. Chops on the ropes. Naraku fights back, Rook hits a spinebuster. Rook misses a senton. Naraku fights back, gets a nearfall. We finally go back live, they’re on the top turnbuckle. Rook slams Naraku off the top rope for two. Strikes exchanged. Blue Thunder by Rook gets two. Naraku lifts Rook up for a big move that gets two. Clothesline and a fisherman buster gets two for Naraku. Naraku tries to put Rook to sleep. Rook cannonballs into the corner. Kam Hendrix is on the apron, not sure why other than to cause the distraction that lets Naraku win.
Winner: Naraku (9:42 via pinfall)
Tavion Heights & Myles Borne talk about their recent issues, then the Vanity Project show up so Tavion can issue all sorts of challenges that involve Myles somehow. With friends like Tavion, who needs enemies?
We see a video package of Tate Wilder that establishes that he’s a daredevil.
NXT Women’s Championship #1 Contender Match: Kendal Grey vs. Kelani Jordan: Lotta flips early. Back & forth, no one with a true advantage until Kelani hits a shot in the corner. Kendal fights back, but she gets taken over with a rana, then she hits the Macho Man neck snap on the top rope. Kelani fights back, takes over and we go Non-Stop NXT!
Kelani with a move off the top rope & neckbreaker. Kelani works Kendal over with restholds. We go back full screen and they clothesline each other on the floor. Kendal fights back in the ring. She puts the straps down like she’s Maxxine Dupri. Kelani fights back, gets a pinfall but her feetsies are on the ropes. Kelani goes to the crossface, gets broken up. Kelani superkicks Kendal off the ropes. Frog splash gets two for Kelani. Kendal follows Kelani up top, gets an armbar! Kelani fights out. Kelani locks in the Haas of Pain! Kendal gets out, near falls traded, reversals lead to the Shades of Grey/Flatliner for the three count!
Winner: Kendal Grey (13:02 via pinfall)
We go to the talent portion of the NXT beauty pageant. Shiloh seems to be a talented juggler. Tristian tries to solve the Rubik’s Cube, he takes too long then Shiloh drives by juggling on a unicycle. Sarah tells us that the last category is public speaking, which we will see next.
Tony D’Angelo tells us that Naraku will need every ounce of evil in his body to beat him for the NXT Championship. Naraku gives him some type of a present.
Jasper Troy vs. Dion Lennox: An unadvertised match, I can see why they wouldn’t want to advertise it. Troy slams Lennox for two. Lennox blocks the chokeslam and smacks Troy down. Troy drops Lennox over the top rope while Saquon Shugars appears on the NXT Tron and we go to commercial.
We return & Lennox has the upperhand. Troy fights back. Slam by Lennox. Troy fights back. Splash in the corner by Troy. Distraction by Osiris, Troy hits a Vader Bomb to nothing and Lennox hits his finisher for the three count.
Winner: Dion Lennox (4:32 shown via pinfall)
Shugars cuts a promo on the screen and attacks Osiris behind Lennox’s back.
We then see a social media interaction between Jaida Parker & Natalya. They both seemed unhappy. Next we’ll settle this Mr. NXT business.
Sarah asks the contestants why they should be Mr. NXT. Tristian asks for order but doesn’t have much to add other than calling Shiloh a hillbilly. Shiloh admits that life changes so much around here he feels like a different person every week. The first judge goes with Shiloh. Kit Wilson thinks both of these guys are toxic but leans towards Tristian. The third judge waxes poetic and the fan vote goes to Hill. Angels gets a chair out and takes it to Hill. As far as beauty pageants go, this has to be the worst I’ve seen since Ms. NWO at Souled Out 1997.
Robert Stone congratulates Naraku on being #1 contender, then Keanu Carver bursts in and wants his shot.
The Culling talk about upcoming events. Shawn Spears’ explanations seem to fall on deaf ears.
Women’s North American Championship Match: Tatum Paxley (c) vs. Zaria: Tatum trying to get a pin early, Zaria spears Tatum & Tatum rolls outside. Zaria keeps with the offense as she should. She throws Tatum across the ring. German suplex to Tatum, but she fights back and double stomps Zaria on the apron.
Tatum hangs onto the apron and we go Non-Stop NXT one more time. Zaria hits the backbreaker on Tatum. Tatum hits a DDT on Zaria then fires off. Tatum kicks Zaria on the apron, gets her back into the ring for a two count. Tatum avoids the spear, Zaria avoids the Molly Go Round and hits a spear for two. Strikes exchanged. Zaria wants a German suplex off the top, ends up in the Tree of Woe. Paxley hits the coast to coast for two! Paxley with a kick to Zaria. Zaria hits an F-5 on the floor! Spear in the ring! Another F-5 and HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE IN ORLANDO!
Winner: Zaria (10:46 via pinfall)
Zaria poses with the title as our live event comes to an end. So long for now!
