Comment: When Dustin Poirier made his WEC debut, in the opening fight of the prelims, he suffered the first loss of his pro career. He moved down to featherweight months later and reeled off several wins including a submission over 21-year-old Max Holloway. Poirier went on to lose two of his next three fights (including one of the best fights of the decade in his loss to the Korean Zombie). Yet, he bounced back to secure three consecutive wins once again. This led him to the UFC 178 fight with Conor McGregor, a first round loss. AGAIN, Poirier turned the road block into a four-fight win streak, returning to lightweight after years as a featherweight. Unfortunately for him, he was knocked out by Michael Johnson. You should know the pattern by now, Poirier turned that loss into his current streak that is 5 wins and a no contest, including a second win over Max Holloway seven years after the first win.
Now, Poirier is preparing to change his career history when he challenges undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in September. If Poirier is able to become the new champion, it would be one of the best stories in the sport in recent memory.
