Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has weighed in on the new main event announced for UFC 226 with a new post on Twitter. As previously reported, Stipe Miocic will defend his UFC heavyweight title against light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at the upcoming fight card. However, Velasquez and Cormier are also close friends and training partners at American Kickboxing Academy.

Velasquez posted a tweet on the fight, noting that he will help Cormier to win the title and become champion. However, he also added, “Once he wins, things could get interesting. #AndNew #WeAreAKA #GonnaGetMyBeltBack.” Whether that means he’s actually willing to fight Cormier for the heavyweight title remains to be seen.

Velasquez has not fought since July 2016 when he defeated Travis Browne by knockout in the first round at UFC 200. However, his career has been sidelined and marred by various injuries over the course of the last several years. Another recent injury has recently kept him out of the Octagon since that time as well.

In the past, Cormier fought at heavyweight in the UFC and was in the top of the rankings. However, he opted to move down to light heavyweight to pursue the title there. One of the reasons was to avoid being put in a situation where he might be forced to fight Velasquez.

UFC 226 set for July 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. You can check out Velasquez’s tweet from this week below.
