Court McGee Says UFC Fight Night 92 Win Was Emotional For Him

August 7, 2016 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Court McGee spoke with MMAjunkie about his win over Dominique Steele at UFC Fight Night 92. Some highlights are below:

On his reaction to the hometown win: “The drive I got…When I walked out, I got emotional. I had to, like, ‘OK, hold on, man. Get back to walking on to the cage – you’re getting ready to fight.’ It’s just, I knew my family was there. I know I’ve got thousands of fans that have followed my entire career. I feel the love, especially here in Utah. And just to hear that … there’s just no words to describe how incredible it is. And it was definitely a motivating factor to push harder and to search for that win.”

On his tough road to the fight: “I went through a little adversity at first. I got a message on Twitter saying, ‘Hey, we’re coming to Salt Lake City,’ so I sent a message to Joe and I said, ‘Hey man, I’ve got to be on this card. But I have to get something fixed.’ So they got me in and got me operated within two days. And that was about six weeks ago. And I came out, went straight to practice and, my first week, I got a staph infection. So I was on antibiotics.”

On his family being there to see his win: “I was a little bit nervous, just because of the blood and stuff like that. And they’ve seen it on TV, but the 5-year-old…I don’t know if they know what they’re watching. My 9-year-old does. But it was just an incredible feeling, hugging them. My littlest boy sneaks in at night and he sleeps on my right side, so I’m hoping that he doesn’t freak out because of the stitches.”
