Dana White Says Conor McGregor vs. Donald Cerrone is ‘Nowhere Close,’ Other Fights Being Explored

March 1, 2019 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

It’s sounding less and less likely that Donald Cerrone’s next fight will be against Conor McGregor. While both sides have been teasing the fight since early this year, UFC president Dana White’s latest comments suggest you probably shouldn’t bet on the likelihood.

“These two have been talking about this, and I said if they want to fight, I would do it, but we’re nowhere close to a fight,” White said in a news conference (per ESPN). “We’re actually looking at other fights right now for Cowboy.”

White told ESPN afterward that Cerrone may end up facing Al Iaquinta, and that he believes McGregor will return this fall. McGregor’s last fight was his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in October at UFC 229, a fight that led to a suspension over the post-fight brawl that broke out. McGregor is eligible to fight again on April 6th.
