Eduardo Dantas Said Joe Warren Was Never The Champion

February 23, 2016 | Posted by Joseph Lee

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Eduardo Dantas spoke about his upcoming title match with bantamweight champion Marcos Galvao at Bellator 150. Joe Warren defeated Dantas to win the title in 2014, and then Galvao submitted Warren in March 2015 in the first title defense. Here are highlights:

On losing the belt: “I think that Warren was never the champion. A champion should defend the belt at least once. Joe Warren never defended. He did have the right strategy to get the win over me, but he didn’t defend his belt.”

On Warren’s loss to Marcos Galvao: “I was very happy when Marcos beat Joe Warren. He had been working hard for many years to become a world champion. I was truly happy for him, since he was able to make his dream come true. I’m happy because when he eventually retires, he’ll know he reached his goals.”

On Galvao being in a similar situation as Warren: “Marcos Galvao hasn’t defended yet, either. I believe that ‘Loro’ is a new opponent, in the sense that he’s much different from the first time we fought. And I’m confident that I’m also a new fighter. I’m stronger and more experienced. The real winners will be the fans watching our fight.”
