Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of UFC 320, I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be your host for the event. We’ve got a PPV with a couple of title fights and a couple of relevant fights on the main card, and while my personal excitement level for them is a tad muted, this is the kind of general effort being put into an event that I’m happy to see. In the main event we’ve got a rematch for the light heavyweight title as newly minted champion Magomed Ankalaev tries for his first defense against the man he beat to win the belt, Alex Pereira. Pereira might be heading towards heavyweight one way or the other but multiple time champions are something of a rarity in the UFC and if he can reclaim the gold it will be a nice addition to his resume. In the co-main event bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili is after his third title defense when he battles Cory Sandhagen, Dvalishvili is looking to enter some truly rarified air given his 13 fight winning streak which currently ties him with the likes of Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre, Max Holloway, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Demetrious Johnson. Sandhagen has been pretty well thought of for a while but his back is against the wall here as a loss would pretty firmly cement his ceiling. We’ve also got a pretty much guaranteed fun fight between former champion Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree, plus Youssef Zalal taking on Josh Emmett. On the prelims Ateba Gautier is going to kill a late replacement opponent, Patchy Mix is trying to overcome a truly dreadful first UFC fight, and Edmen Shahbazyan is looking to continue his career renaissance going. As for the early prelims, Chris Gutierrez and Farid Basharat stands out to be sure. So all in all we’ve got a fairly strong card on paper, now let’s hope it holds up in practice.
UFC 320 comes to the world from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. We’ve got the usual stateside PPV trio of Jon Anik, Joe Rogan, and Daniel Cormier on commentary. Not exactly my favorite trio personally. Nevada does use the newer rules so keep that in mind and we will be in the larger 30 foot cage set up.
Veronica Hardy just had a three fight winning streak broken by Eduarda Moura, she’s trying to bounce back and avoid her first losing streak since 2019. Brogan Walker has been out of action since April of 2023 and has gone 0-2 in the UFC as well, she really needs to find that first UFC win here. Hardy is a heavy favorite at -770 to Walker’s +540.
Women’s Flyweight Bout: Veronica Hardy (9-5-1, 124.5 lbs.) vs. Brogan Walker (7-4, 125.5 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: These two are the same height while Walker has three inches of reach advantage, she’s also 8 years older. They touch gloves, Hardy doing some early stance switching but is mostly southpaw. Both women land power hand punches. Left hook from Hardy then a follow up flurry in close. A right hand from Hardy off balances Walker in close and they tie up on the mat with Walker holding full guard. A few short blows land for Hardy but Walker is holding on and controlling posture so far. Elbow from Hardy. A few slams from Hardy are enough to get some of the posture control off and she lands a few blows. They scoot to the fence and Hardy looks to stack up Walker against it. Elbow from Hardy. Walker wall walks but takes a couple of head kicks on the way. They tie up and hit the fence again, Walker is looking for a takedown and gets a bit of an outside trip but Hardy scrambles and is able to get Walker standing over her. A few kicks to the knee from Hardy, Walker goes into the guard but Hardy grabs an armbar with short time, Walker will see out the round though. Hardy says there was a tap so we’re getting a quick replay to see.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Hardy, could be 10-8 depending on how you feel about that armbar
ROUND TWO: Doesn’t look like there was a tap so we’re onto the second round. Both women circle again, Walker’s punches look pretty bad as Hardy easily avoids a few. Bit of a leg kick from Hardy. Left hook from Hardy. Right hand from Hardy. Now Walker is trying to show stance switches but her southpaw looks super awkward. Hardy is mostly orthodox this round. A right hand from Hardy drops Walker but she bounces back up. Right hand then a left hook from Hardy. Hardy with another right hand then a body kick. A couple lefts from Hardy land after she catches a kick. Another right from Hardy. Body kick from Hardy then a leg kick. Walker tries a takedown, she gets it near the fence but there’s no time left in the round.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Hardy, 20-18 Hardy overall
ROUND THREE: Both women back to circling. They both show the lead hand a little bit. Left hook from Hardy. Bit of a combination from Hardy. They both avoid a few punches. Right hand then a left hook from Hardy. Both women land rights but Hardy follows up hers with a combination. Another couple of punches from Hardy. Hardy punches into a clinch then punches out of it before Walker can do anything with it. Calf kick from Hardy. Again Hardy with a right hand then a left hook to follow up. Calf kick from Hardy. Walker with a left hand then a knee tap takedown and she gets the back. Only one hook for Walker, Hardy is working to getting half guard. Walker wont be able to do anything and the round ends.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Veronica Hardy via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)
No interview for Hardy.
Ramiz Brahimaj has gone 4-3 in the UFC but he is on a two fight winning streak and if he can get to three in a row here he might get a step up in class for his next fight. Austin Vanderford is on a two fight winning streak including a successful UFC debut back in February, he’s trying to extend that success here and prove he’s the one ready to make waves in the UFC. The odds are with Vanderford at -295 against a +240 Brahimaj comeback.
Welterweight Bout: Ramiz Brahimaj (12-5, 170.5 lbs.) vs. Austin Vanderford (13-2, 170.5 lbs.)

A few body shots from Vanderford, Brahimaj will end the round sitting on the fence.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Vanderford
ROUND TWO: Brahimaj looks for more forward motion to start this round. Both men work the lead hand as they look for openings. Brahimaj with a right hand then a high kick, Vanderford gets a takedown against the fence though. Brahimaj looks for a front choke attack, Vanderford wrestles up on a double leg though and gets him down against the fence. There’s blood coming from Vanderford but I can’t see where, commentary says it’s on the forehead. Brahimaj wall walks then lands a few elbows while Vanderford looks for a takedown but Vanderford with a go behind and a takedown. Quick get up from Brahimaj, Vanderford keeps looking to wrestle him and gets him down to a knee again. Front choke from Brahimaj as Vanderford looks for the double leg, and this time it gets deep enough that Vanderford has to tap.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Ramiz Brahimaj via Submission, 10 finger guillotine, at 2:24 of Round 2

Farid Basharat is undefeated including four UFC wins but he’s been out of action for almost a year after a win over Victor Hugo, he’s looking to remain perfect and begin making the transition from prospect to contender. Chris Gutierrez has gone 3-2 in his last five fights and is on a two fight winning streak, he’s trying to slow the momentum that Basharat has and prove he’s still got upward mobility in the division. It’s not surprising to see Basharat as a rather large favorite at -500 but that +385 comeback on Gutierrez might tempt a few bettors out there.

Macy Chiasson missed weight for this fight, her second time doing so in the UFC and she’s coming off of a loss to Ketlen Vieiera. Chaisson is trying to avoid her first losing streak and defend her ranking, plus a win might help smoother over that weight issue as it happening more than once means it could turn into a real problem. Yana Santos is on a two fight winning streak and most recently got a fairly high profile win when she bested Miesha Tate, she’s looking to move up the ranks with another win here and prove she’s ready to make a real move towards the top of the division. Fairly close here, -195 on Chiasson despite the weight miss while that +165 on Santos is looking quite tempting.

Punahele Soriano has gone 2-0 since dropping to welterweight last year, now he’s trying to keep that momentum going with another win. Nikolay Veretennikov has gone 1-2 in the UFC but he is coming off of a win and could get his UFC record to the .500 mark with a win. The odds like Soriano at -290 to +235 for Veretennikov.

Edmen Shahbazyan is on a two fight winning streak, his first winning streak since 2019, and he’s really making a push to prove he’s rebuilt himself and is ready for another move up the ranks. Andre Muniz had some serious momentum back in 2021 but he’s just 2-3 in his last five fights and most recently got stopped by Ikram Aliskerov and now he’s trying to avoid another losing streak. Shahbazyan is a fairly hefty favorite at -320 to +265 on Muniz.
Middleweight Bout: Andre Muniz (24-7, 185.5 lbs.) vs. Edmen Shahbazyan (15-5, 185.5 lbs.)

Mic time for Shahbazyan after that, he gives glory to God first then mentions being signed by the UFC at just 20 so now he’s finally starting to grow. Asked about the future he’s just taking this one fight at a time then puts his team over for getting him on the right track.

Patchy Mix is coming off of a loss and a pretty dreadful performance in his UFC debut when he was beaten everywhere by Mario Bautista, he’s trying to rebound here and show off more of the skills that saw him tear through Bellator and PFL events that led to him getting to the UFC. Jakub Wiklacz is a former KSW champion and brings a seven fight unbeaten streak into his UFC debut, KSW champs have a decent history of success in the UFC and he’ll be trying to add to that legacy. Despite the poor debut Mix is still the favorite at -320 while that +260 comeback on Wiklacz might tempt some bettors out there.

He again says the fight was close and puts over Mix, he promises to give more the next time. He says fighting in the UFC is amazing and puts over the crowd.
Daniel Santos has gone 3-1 in the UFC but he’s on at three fight winning streak and a fourth in a row here could earn him a shot at a bigger name for his next fight. Ateba Gautier is on a seven fight winning streak including two wins in the UFC, he’s looking quite dangerous during that time and he’ll be looking to add more to his highlight reel here. Tre’ston Vines is stepping in on short notice to replace Ozzy Diaz but he is on a four fight winning streak and is trying to spring a major upset in his UFC debut. Gautier is the biggest favorite on the card at a whopping -1800 to a +980 comeback for Vines.

Gautier avoids a takedown and knees Vines in the head, Vines drops but gets up quickly and gets back to circling. Bit of a right from Gautier. Vines tries a takedown against the fence but Gautier just muscles him over and punches him against the fence until the ref steps in.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Atema Gautier via TKO, punches, at 1:41 of Round 1
The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Gautier for his work. Mic time for Gautier, he jokes that he’s not sure if he hits hard because he’s never hit himself when asked about finding opponents. Asked about the future he doesn’t have a name but just wants to keep fighting. To close he thanks his team, family, and God.

Well that’s it for preliminary action, on to PPV for the main card.
Joe Pyfer is on a two fight winning streak but he’s still kind of struggling to regain momentum since his loss to Jack Hermansson, though if he can get to three wins in a row here and against a ranked opponent it would put his career in a good position. Abus Magomedov is on a three fight winning streak and has cracked the top rankings with it, now he’s trying to defend it and earn a shot at someone ranked above him for his next fight. The odds like Pyfer at -250 to +205 for Magomedov.
Middleweight Bout: #14 Abus Magomedov (28-5-1, 185.5 lbs.) vs. Joe Pyfer (14-3, 186 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: These two are the same height but Magomedov has three inches of reach advantage. They touch gloves to get things started. Some feinting from both men, they’re just getting a feel for things. Pyfer thinks about a takedown, that just turns into a clinch on the fence. Outside trip from Pyfer but Magomedov counters and gets on top in half guard after landing an elbow. Butterfly guard for Pyfer now, then full guard and he tries a triangle but Magomedov defends and lands a hammer fist. Pyfer stands, Magomedov jumps for the backpack then hits a mat return into north-south. Kimura attack from Magomedov, he goes into a head scissors choke but bails on that to keep side control. A few knees to the body from Magomedov. Pyfer hip escapes towards full guard, the moves to his knees and wrestles up while Magomedov holds a front headlock. They move into a clinch and Pyfer hits the body a few times before they break. Front kick from Magomedov then a left hand into a clinch. Pyfer breaks the clinch and keeps pressing forward into a jab. Bit of a right hand from Pyfer. Pyfer backs Magomedov into the fence and fires a right hand before the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Magomedov
ROUND TWO: They touch gloves again. Pyfer with immediate pressure and he’s looking to line up a punch. Right hand from Pyfer, then another that drops Magomedov. Pyfer gets on top in half guard and drops an elbow. More strikes from Pyfer then he grabs an arm triangle but the fence is complicating things. Pyfer gets to mount with the arm triangle and bails on the choke. Magomedov gives up the back, Pyfer gets a body triangle and starts looking for a choke. The choke is in, Pyfer tightens it and Magomedov taps.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Joe Pyfer via Submission, rear naked choke, at 1:44 of Round 2
Mic time for Pyfer, he says he felt flat physically tonight and adjusted so he admits to getting beat up the first round but he knew Magomedov would gas out and he’d take over. He puts over his team then expresses love for America and wants a post fight bonus.
Josh Emmett has gone just 1-3 in his last four fights, though one of those losses was to Ilia Topuria and most recently he lost to Lerone Murphy so it’s not like he’s been fighting poor competition. Still he’s trying to avoid another losing streak and defend his ranking despite his age starting to climb north of 40. Youssef Zalal is on a seven fight winning streak including being 4-0 since returning to the UFC last year, a win here would be the biggest of his career and would move him pretty close to the title picture. Zalal is a pretty large favorite at -490 to a +380 payout on Emmett.
Featherweight Bout: #8 Josh Emmett (19-5, 146 lbs.) vs. #9 Youssef Zalal (17-5-1, 146 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Zalal is three and a half inches taller with two inches of reach advantage, he’s also 11 years older. Southpaw for Zalal. Zalal uses a few kicks to do some range finding, he’s also doing a bit of stance switching as he moves around. Double leg from Zalal, then he gets to a hip as Emmett is on his side. Zalal grabs at an arm from the back, it’s dangerous and Emmett tries to step around but taps as he can’t escape.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Youssef Zalal via Verbal Submission, armbar, at 1:38 of Round 1
The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Zalal for his work. Mic time for Zalal, he gives glory to God then puts over Emmett as a legend of the sport and tries to suck up to the crowd which doesn’t really work. He says the strategy was always to take Emmett down and says he’s too smart for most fighters and just needs his chance. He says he wants Lerone Murphy next, seems unlikely but he is due a fight near that level. To close he says something in what I think is either Arabic or Moroccan Berber that doesn’t get translated.

Jiri Prochazka is a former light heavyweight champion but his 0-2 record against Alex Pereira means he’s in a dicey position relative to the title right now. Prochazka is coming off of a win over Jamahal Hill and if he can get another winning streak going he could be in the title picture depending on how a few other things shake out. Khalil Rountree also has a loss to Alex Pereira and is coming off of a win over Jamahal Hill, he’s likewise trying to get another crack at the title. The odds lean towards Prochazka at -210 to Rountree’s +175.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Jiri Prochazka via KO, punches, at 3:04 of Round 3
The Final Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Prochazka for his work. Mic time for Prochazka, he plays with the crowd then says he had to go through the blood to get this win and to get his mind and spirit back into this. He says a lot of chaos is good for him because he stays calm in those moments and finds ways to win. He says he needs to feel in danger from the start of the fight and would like to fight for the title next. Asked about the future he says Ulberg already declined to fight him, now he’s beaten Hill and Rountree back to back.
Cory Sandhagen has been a top bantamweight for a while now but he’s also had some key losses that stalled his momentum, the loss to TJ Dillashaw even though I thought Sandhagen won that fight, or the quick submission loss to Aljamain Sterling being examples. Most recently Sandhagen defeated Deiveson Figueriedo to get this shot and he seems to know that if he comes up short he’s unlikely to get another crack at the title. Merab Dvalishvili is the bantamweight champion and is on an absurd 13 fight winning streak, he’s also going for his third title defense here. With a win Dvalishvili will be putting his name into some pretty legendary company and further establishing his legacy in the sport. It’s not a surprise to see Dvalishvili as the favorite at -405 to a +330 comeback on Sandhagen.
Bantamweight Title Bout: (c) Merab Dvalishvili (20-4, 135 lbs.) vs. #4 Cory Sandhagen (18-6, 134.5 lbs.)

Jab from Sandhagen then he avoids a single leg attempt. Bit of an uppercut from Sandhagen. Left to the body from Sandhagen, Dvalishvili responds with a right hand. They tie up and Dvalishvili pushes things into the fence. Some classic stalling from Dvalishvili now, he tries a few leg reaps but can’t find anything. Eventually Dvalishvili does get a takedown and gets the back as Sandhagen stands. They break without incident. Sandhagen lands a combination. Leg kick from Sandhagen. Jab from Sandhagen and Dvalishvili misses his counters, he doesn’t have a feel for the range yet. Dvalishvili grabs a clinch again, Sandhagen lands a knee to the body. OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – and STILL UFC Bantamweight Champion Merab Dvalishvili via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-45 x2)
Mic time for Dvalishvili, he says he’s a machine and keeps getting better then puts over his team. He feels like he’s just starting to become a good fighting now, he’s finally moving beyond a lot of his wild impulses. Asked what he wants next, he says Petr Yan looked good and he just wants to stay active and would like to fight in December if possible. He says he knows how unpredictable MMA is, that’s in response to being asked if anyone should be excited about him fighting again because of how dominant he’s been. To close he does the “I’m just a normal guy” schtick then puts over his team again.
Alex Pereira is a former middleweight and light heavyweight champion in the UFC but he did come up short in his last fight which cost him the title, now he’s trying to regain that title and add his name to a really short list of fighters who have won multiple titles across multiple weight classes. Magomed Ankalaev has a 114 fight unbeaten streak going on though a draw and No Contest do exist during that stretch which led him to capture the light heavyweight title. Now Ankalaev is trying to defend the title he just took from Pereira and begin establishing his reign in the division. Ankalaev is the favorite at -260 while that +215 payout on Pereira is a really tempting value bet.
Light Heavyweight Title Bout: (c) Magomed Ankalaev (21-1-1 1 NC, 204.5 lbs.) vs. #1 Alex Pereira (12-3, 204.5 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Pereira is an inch taller with four inches of reach advantage. Southpaw for Ankalaev. Pereira pushes forward early and jabs in close. More punches and elbows from Pereira land and the ref steps in as Ankalaev can do nothing but cover up.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – and NEW UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira via TKO, punches and elbows, at 1:20 of Round 1
The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Pereira for his work. Mic time for the new champion and the translator, he says vengeance is a poison and he just wanted to prove he wasn’t lying when he said he was in poor condition for the first fight. He wasn’t surprised at the outcome now that he’s back to being healthy, then sends love to the family of Jon Jones as they deal with the tragic passing of his brother Arthur Jones and gets the crowd to have a moment of silence for Arthur Jones and the Jones family. Classy move.
