Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of UFC on ESPN+ 107, I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be your host. Well it’s the first UFC event of 2025 and it’s a deeply unimpressive card on paper. The main event is a rematch between Mackenzie Dern and Amanda Ribas, their first fight was in 2019 and it really feels like they’ve kind of been treading water that whole time in a lot of respects. The most interesting fight on this card is a middleweight clash between Roman Kopylov and Chris Curtis with an honorable mention to Cesar Almeida vs. Abdul Razak Alhassan. Austin Bashi has been getting a little bit of buzz around super hardcore circles, and Punahele Soriano taking on Uros Medic could be a decent little scrap. The prelims are mostly devoid of anything really interesting, though maybe the UFC debut of former division 1 wrestler Jacobe Smith breaks that trend a little bit. Anyway we’re hardly starting the year off with a bang, so let’s hope the action delivers.
UFC on ESPN+ 107 comes to the world from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Brendan Fitzgerald, Michael Bisping, and Dominick Cruz will be calling the action with Heidi Androl doing the roving reporter bit. We should all be pretty clear on the rules at this point, but I’m still waiting on fighters to start using knees against the fence when their opponent doesn’t have a knee down, and the first person to throw a tomahawk elbow standing is going to earn a big reaction from me now that 12-6 elbows are legal.
Joe Solecki has gone 2-2 in his last four fights but is on a two fight losing streak right now, he also took this fight on fairly short notice but looks to break his losing streak and get the year started on a positive note. Nurullo Aliev is undefeated including his UFC debut almost two years ago, he’s had a couple of fights fall out since then but he’s trying to remind people that he’s a relevant prospect in the division. Given the short notice replacement in this fight it’s not surprising to see Alive as a big favorite at -700 to Solecki’s +500.
Lightweight Bout: Nurullo Aliev (9-0, 155.5 lbs.) vs. Joe Solecki (13-5, 155 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Aliev is an inch taller with an inch and a half of reach advantage. They touch gloves to get us going. Some feinting from both men, Aliev looks much larger than just the stats indicate. Jab from Solecki. Aliev bulls forward and gets a takedown into full guard. They scoot to the fence and Solecki starts working his guard. Solecki looks to wall walk then grabs at the head as Aliev keeps him on his seat. Aliev postures through the guillotine threat then Solecki looks for a triangle choke, pretty nice set up there from Solecki. The position is right for the triangle but he can’t get things tight enough and winds up bailing on the attempt. Aliev better start doing things, he’s behind this round so far. A few body to head punches from Aliev land but he can’t get around the full guard of Solecki. Aliev postures up and lands a flurry of punches before Solecki controls his posture again and that’s how the round will end.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Aliev
ROUND TWO: Solecki feints his way forward but isn’t landing much. Aliev misses a couple of punches. Bit of a left hook from Aliev. They both miss some sloppy punches. Aliev punches into a clinch and gets the back standing, he hits a mat return but Solecki grabs at a triangle choke in the transition. This one is a lot closer than the first one and Solecki commits to angling to really clamp things down. Aliev is able to slam his way out of the attempt and moves to the ride position and lands punches. Solecki is able to get to the fence and get to a knee. Aliev with some knees to the leg, Solecki regains his feet but Aliev drops him with a right hand and starts punching from the guard of Solecki but Solecki is able to tie him up and stifle the flurry. They’ll spend the last bit of the round with Aliev on top, but he does land a few short elbows this time.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Aliev, 20-18 Aliev overall
ROUND THREE: They circle again, Aliev lands a bit of a left hand. They both swing in close with mixed results. Solecki lands an inside leg kick. Again they both land during an exchange. Solecki lands a left hook. Right hand from Aliev. Aliev lands a couple of punches. A right hand from Aliev off balances Solecki. Again that right hand lands for Aliev. Aliev is the one throwing a bit more at this point and generally being the aggressor. Solecki starts to show his jab a bit more, he’s flicked out a few leg kicks but those aren’t doing much even when they land. They trade left hooks. A few body shots from Aliev land in close. Solecki lands another left but his lack of volume is biting him when they exchange. Double leg from Solecki as Aliev over commits pushing ofrward, Solecki moves to full mount quite quickly though. They trade on the mat to end the round.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Aliev but could go to Solecki, 30-27 Aliev overall
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Nurullo Aliev via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28 x2)
No issues with Solecki stealing the third with that last flurry and full mount position. No interview for Aliev.

Preston Parsons has gone 2-3 in the UFC most recently losing to Oban Elliott last year, he’s trying to avoid his first losing streak with a win. Jacobe Smith is undefeated and has a solid wrestling background from his time at Oklahoma State, he’s looking to announce his arrival with a memorable win here. It’s not surprising to see Smith as a heavy favorite at -600 while the +440 comeback on Parsons might tempt a few of the more degenerate gamblers out there.

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Smith for his work. Mic time for Smith after that knockout, he expected the win and knew he had to just have fun and says this is his house now. He mentions he was throwing straight early and let that set up the left hook then advocates for a bonus. Asked about the future he plans on continuing to build and stay smart.
Lovely left hook to follow up the right hand lead, Smith definitely has tools.

Thiago Moises has gone 3-2 in his last five fights, most recently losing to Ludovit Klein and now he’s trying to avoid his first losing streak since 2021. Trey Ogden has gone 3-2 with 1 No Contest in the UFC and currently hasn’t lost in his last three fights, he’s looking for one of his more notable wins and to prove he’s ready for a step up in class. A calf kick from Moises drops Ogden, he kicks him in the calf again then lands a punch as he goes into the guard of Ogden. Elbow from Moises. A few more short elbows from Moises land. Marco Tulio brings an eight fight winning streak into his UFC debut and he’s trying to extend that here while getting the biggest win of his career thus far. Ihor Potieria missed weight for this fight, his second time doing so since moving down to middleweight, he’s on a two fight losing streak and his overall UFC record is 2-5 so it’s not out of bounds to say he could well be fighting for his job at this point. That’s it for the prelims, still on ESPN+ for the main card though.
Punahele Soriano had a rough run at middleweight but he seemed to find a little more success last year when he dropped to welterweight and got a win, now he’s looking for his first winning streak since 2021. Uros Medic has gone 2-1 since moving to welterweight with his only loss coming to Myktybek Orolbai and most recently he stopped Tim Means with strikes and now he’s looking for his first welterweight winning streak in the UFC. Medic is your favorite at -205 while that +170 payout on Soriano might be a tempting little value bet.

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Soriano for his work. Mic time for Soriano, he’s very emotional as his wife is pregnant and he really needed this win. He puts over Medic then talks about training that counter all camp but admits the body shot kind of hurt, he’s mostly focused on his family right now but is open to fighting before June.
Medic drops his hands after the first punch from Soriano and he’s backing mostly straight up, a bad combination as Soriano follows with a wicked right hand that ends things.

Austin Bashi is undefeated coming into his UFC debut and he’s looking to keep that perfect record in tact with another win. Christian Rodriguez has gone 4-2 in the UFC so he’s hardly a gimme for Bashi’s first fight, most recently Rodriguez suffered a loss to Julian Erosa but he’s trying to bounce back and avoid his first losing streak. The odds like Bashi at -250 while +205 on Rodriguez is a really tempting bet if you’re looking for an underdog to gamble on.
Featherweight Bout: Austin Bashi (13-0, 145.5 lbs.) vs. Christian Rodriguez (11-2, 145 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Rodriguez is an inch taller with an inch and a half of reach advantage. They touch gloves to get us going. The Final Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Kopylov for his work, though I don’t love that stoppage personally. Curtis is pissed and I fully understand his position on that stoppage. Mic time for Kopylov and the translator, that cut on Kopylov is pretty big at this point, and he is happy to get the win. As the finish is brought up he didn’t go in for more violence after the knockdown because he knows Curtis is a family man and he didn’t want to hurt him more than necessary.
Given how he falls I can understand the refs decision, but I fully understand Curtis being pissed about this one. Still a tremendous fight.

Cesar Almeida has gone 2-1 in the UFC and he is coming off of a win so this represents a chance to get his first UFC winning streak up and running. Abdul Razak Alhassan hasn’t gotten a win in almost two years and really needs to get back on the winning side of things, he’s been with the UFC since 2016 and if he’s proving to be too far over the hill it would be fairly easy for the UFC to let him go. The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Almeida for his work. Mic time for Almeida and the translator, he opens with English to put over his opponent as a dangerous opponent but he needed this kind of win to move up in the division and he’s very happy to finish a dangerous guy like that. He talks us through the finish then puts over his team for their work. To close he wants to be in the UFC game or as part of the UFC collectors card, then wants to fight in Brazil in May.
Alhassan just gets too eager throwing heavy punches, Almeida stays calm, deflects, and then obliterates him with a left hook right to the chin. Early contender for knockout of the year.

Santiago Ponzinibbio has gone just 1-4 in his last five fights, this is somewhat mitigated by three of those being split decisions but still that’s not a good spot to be in for a guy who’s 38 and made his UFC debut back in 2013 so he really needs to halt his current two fight losing streak. Mackenzie Dern is one of the better jiu-jitsu practitioners to hit the UFC on the women’s side of things but she’s been with the UFC since 2018 and for the last 4 or 5 years in particular seems to be treading water. If Dern wants to break that trend and finally make a serious push towards the title level then she needs a win here. Amanda Ribas has been bouncing around between strawweight and flyweight for a while, most recently she had nothing to offer Rose Namajunas over five rounds in March of last year up at flyweight. Ribas is back at flyweight here and looking to get her second win over Dern, and possibly start a real run at strawweight because she hasn’t lost at strawweight since 2021 when she got stopped by Marina Rodrigez. Ribas is favored to win at -185 to Dern’s +155.
Strawweight Bout: #6 Mackenzie Dern (14-5, 116 lbs.) vs. #8 Amanda Ribas (13-5, 116 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Dern is an inch taller while Ribas has three inches of reach advantage. They touch gloves to get us going. Leg kick from Dern. Ribas checks a leg kick. Dern looks to stack up Ribas and pass but Ribas is just keeping everything tight and close. They get towards the fence and trade a few short blows on the mat. A few hammer fists from Dern but nothing of real relevance, Ribas is just holding on and stopping Dern from doing much but isn’t doing anything herself either. Dern finally gets a little posture and lands an elbow as the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Dern
ROUND TWO: Calf kick from Dern. Ribas lands an inside leg kick. They tie up and Ribas winds up falling on top of Dern in full guard. Dern is angling her hips right away and lands a few elbows. Ribas is cut over the right eyebrow, can’t see specifics but she’s leaking. Hammer fist from Ribas. Dern fires a few more elbows. Omoplata from Dern, she uses that to grab a bit of a cradle then ties up both arms of Ribas. They scramble again and Dern is on top with 20 seconds left so Ribas just tries to lock things down and stall again. That’s where the round will end.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Dern but a closer one, 20-18 Dern overall
ROUND THREE: Jab from Dern. Ribas is fighting southpaw right now. A lot of circling from Dern then she lands a right hand and ties up. They hit the fence and Dern fires a few knees. Ribas has a pretty notable knot on the corner of her left eyebrow as well. Eventually Ribas hits a trip to get on top again. Dern has full guard and fires a few elbows. Armbar attempt from Dern, she’s in decent position for it and starts working to extend Ribas’s arm. Ribas lands a few knees to the leg while keeping Dern stacked up and blocking the arm being extended. Dern switches to a sweep and gets towards spider web control still threatening the armbar but she bails on that to get full mount. Dern lands a few elbows then hammer fists, she’s trying to open up an armbar and sits for it, short time left though but the arm is extended and Ribas has to tap.

She talks us through the finish then when asked about the future she really just wants to get another win but doesn’t have a name in mind now that Tatiana Suarez is fighting for the belt.
