Tom Lawlor Says He’s Still Interested In Competing In MMA

Tom Lawlor says that he is still interested in making a return to MMA at some point. The MLW star has not competed in an MMA bout since 2021, but he said in a recent interview with Fightful Overbooked for a new interview and during the conversation, he was asked about potentially returning to the sport. You can see some highlights below:
On a potential MMA fight: “I’d be interested in competing again. I don’t know exactly under what kind of ruleset. Every time I drink a few beers and watch BKFC, I think, ‘Hey, it doesn’t seem like it would be that bad.’ The idea that they’re doing a $25 million tournament sounds cool. There is DogFight in Spain, but they have insane stuff like 3 on 1 fights, tag team fights. Bizarre anything goes fights where you can strike to the groin. MMA in the US is so homogenous. It’s the same product over and over. It’s all in the cage. Everything is very similar. If you look at MMA overseas, Japan, Europe, all these other places doing different things, that’s what appeals to me. We’ve been watching MMA for 30 years and I think people have kind of figured out the game. We’ve seen almost all of the techniques that you can do. I like seeing different rulesets. I like seeing dirty boxing. All these things have a place. I’d be into doing something else, but I don’t know if it would be a MMA fight.”
On the possibility of being involved in SlapFight: “I don’t think so. I’m like the originator almost of that, punching Dave Kaplan in the bathroom in 2008. It’s very similar. You’d think I might have some experience and be good at it. I do it in the pro wrestling ring. I sit there and take 50 slaps form Minoru Suzuki. How much harder can these guys be hitting than him?”
