411’s Golden Globes Report: Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book Win Big

Bohemian Rhapsody Green Book Golden Globes

Bohemian Rhapsody and Green Book were the big film winners at the 76th annual Golden Globes on Sunday night. The two films took home the top prizes in their categories and another statue or two as well, boosting their chances for Oscar nominations. Meanwhile, Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, The Kominsky Method and The Americans won the top television awards.

Green Book won three awards in total, the most of the night. In addition to Best Comedy or Musical, the period film won Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali’s performance and Best Screenplay. Bohemian Rhapsody upset A Star Is Born to take Best Dramatic Film, and won Rami Malek an award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama). Both films were considered to be in the mix for Best Picture Oscar nominations, but Rhapsody was a dark horse candidate. While the Globes don’t always agree with the Oscars on winners, it’s rare that a winner in one of the Globes’ Best Picture categories doesn’t at least get nominated.

On the TV side, Assassination of Gianni Versace and The Kominsky Method took home the most awards with two each. The former followed its predecessor People vs. OJ Simpson with a Best Limited Series or Television Film win, as well as Best Actor in that category for Darren Criss. As for Kominsky Method, it upset The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for Best Comedy or Musical Series, and won Best Actor in a Comedy or or Musical Series for Michael Douglas. Maisel still took home Best Actress in the genre for Rachel Brosnahan. Sandra Oh, who co-hosted the Globes with Andy Sandberg, won Best Actress in a Drama Series for Killing Eve.

The most headline-grabbing snubs went to A Star Is Born, which was considered a front-runner for the Best Film Drama categories but could only get a win for Best Song for “Shallow.”
