It’s a sad day for horror fans, as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that legendary actor John Saxon has passed away at the age of 83. He died of pneumonia in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

He’s perhaps best known for his work in A Nightmare on Elm Street, where he played Nancy’s father Lt. Donald Thompson. He would reprise that role in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, then play a fictionalized version of himself in Wes Craven’s New Nightmare. Other horror credits include Black Christmas, Dario Argento’s Tenebrae, Cannibal Apocalypse and From Dusk Till Dawn.

For those who aren’t as into horror, you might also know him for playing Bruce Lee’s friend Roper in Enter the Dragon.

411 would like to give our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Mr. Saxon.
