A24 Sets October Bow For The Smashing Machine Starring Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s turn as Mark Kerr in Benny Safdie’s The Smashing Machine will release in October. A24 announced on Wednesday (per Deadline) that the MMA biopic will release on October 3rd.

The announcement comes after the Michael Jackson biopic Michael moved away from that weekend. The Smashing Machine’s competition that weekend for new screens includes Osgood Perkins’ horror film The Keeper and Paramount’s Roofman.

The drama is based on the 2002 documentary The Smashing Machine: The Life and Times of Mark Kerr and also stars Emily Blunt. Safdie (Uncut Gems) wrote and directed the film.
