An Abducted Kid Gets Help From the Dead in First Trailer For The Black Phone
Scott Derrickson is returning to horror with the supernatural-themed serial killer film The Black Phone, and the first trailer teases the story to come. Universal Pictures has released the first official trailer for the film, which you can check out below along with the first poster.
The trailer reveals the abduction of young protagonist Finney Shaw (Mason Thames) by the creepy child killer known as The Grabber, played by Ethan Hawke. Trapped in a room with a black phone attached to the wall, Finney finds that he can hear the voices of The Grabber’s previous victims who try and help him escape.
Derrickson, best known in horror for Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose (and for Doctor Strange outside of the genre), is directing based on a script he co-wrote with C. Robert Cargill based on a short story by Joe Hill from his book 20th Century Ghosts. The film stars Thames, Hawke, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and James Ransone and is set to release on February 4th, 2022. It is described as follows:
Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, who is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.
