Alec Baldwin To Play Thomas Wayne In Joker

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alec Baldwin is set to play Thomas Wayne, the father of future Batman Bruce Wayne, in the upcoming movie Joker. The film is an origin story for the titular villain, who will be played by Joaquin Phoenix. Wayne will be different from the comics, as he’s described as “a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump.”

The film begins shooting in two weeks. It also stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Marc Maron. Todd Phillips will direct from a script he wrote with Scott Silver. Martin Scorsese will produce. It’s expected to have a lower budget and be darker than the current Worlds of DC films.
