According to The Hollywood Reporter, Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) is in talks to join the cast of the third Jumanji film in what is said to be a “key” and “significant” role. Details on her character are being kept secret. She joins a cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Kevin Gillan, who all appeared in the last film, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Like the first two films, this will be based on the children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. The 1995 original focused on a magical board game that brought the jungle to life in the real world. Welcome to the Jungle updated the scenario by turning the board game into a video game and transported four teens into the world of the game. Their avatars were played by Johnson, Black, Hart and Gillan. The sequel will be directed by Jake Kasdan from a script he wrote with Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. Matt Tolmach will produce with Kasdan and Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions.
