Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s UFC 314 report, I’m Robert Winfree and I’ve got all the details for you. We’ve got a really good PPV card here, the main card in particular is one of the better PPV offerings from the UFC all year to this point. The main event sees former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski take on Diego Lopes for the vacant title since Ilia Topuria seems to be moving up to lightweight. Volkanovski is trying to make some history here, no male fighter has won a UFC title fight at the age of 35 or older and no one has ever lost back to back fights via stoppage then won a UFC title in their next fight. It’s a big mountain that he’s trying to climb, and the red hot Diego Lopes is hardly any kind of soft touch as Lopes has definitely been lighting things up in the division. Also we’ve got Michael Chandler vs. Paddy Pimblett, the UFC debut of Patricio “Pitbull” Freire who is the best fighter in Bellator history taking on Yair Rodriguez. Also Bryce Mitchell vs. Jean Silva. On the prelims we’ve got Dan Ige vs. Sean Woodson which is a test for Woodson to crack the ranks while Ige tries to hold off another up and coming talent, Virna Jandiroba takes on Yan Xiaonan with the winner being the likely next challenger for Zhang Weili and that’s doubly true for Jandiroba as she’s never faced Zhang. Jim Miller is in action, and Darren Elkins vs. Julian Erosa is guaranteed violence. So now we’re just hoping the action lives up to the promise it has on paper.
UFC 314 comes to the world from the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, USA. Jon Anik, Daniel Cormier, and Joe Rogan provide commentary. Keep in mind we’ve got the regular 30 foot cage and we’ve got the new rules so 12-6 elbows are fair game and you need something other than your hands on the mat to be grounded. We’ve seen a few guys start to get the hang of that last rule in particular and I’m very eager for people to really make use of it.
Nora Cornolle has gone 2-1 in the UFC but she missed weight here and is coming off of a loss, all that means a win will be very helpful smoothing things over while a loss would be a pretty notable setback. Hailey Cowan dropped her UFC debut almost two years ago and has had a few different fights fall through since then, but she’s finally back in action and looking for that first UFC win. Cornolle is the -240 favorite to Cowan’s +195.
Women’s Bantamweight Bout: #13 Nora Cornolle (8-2, 137.5 lbs.)* vs. Hailey Cowan (7-3, 136 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Cowan is an inch taller while the reach is identical, and of course Cornolle missed weight. Southpaw for Cowan. Cornolle with some feinting, she punches into a clinch and they hit the fence. Cowan has Cornolle on the fence and they trade a few short knees then Cornolle spins Cowan into the fence. Whizzer kick from Cowan but Cornolle grabs an armbar attempt, Cowan stacks her up and gets her arm out of danger then moves to half guard. Cornolle looks to control posture, not much going on here. Cowan tries to threaten an arm triangle but there’s nothing there. Again not much is happening here, Cowan doesn’t have much ground and pound. Cornolle threatens a guillotine but bails on it when Cornolle passes to half guard on the safe side. They scramble and Cowan gets the back with both hooks in. Body triangle now for Cowan. That’s where the round will end.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Cowan
ROUND TWO: Bit of a high kick from Cowan. Cornolle with a right hand then an elbow in close. Body kick from Cornolle then she lands a stiff elbow in the clinch. Cowan fails on an uchi mata and Cornolle gets the back with both hooks in. Cornolle starts fishing for a choke, some glove grabbing from Cornolle but she gets the choke locked in eventually and gets the tap.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Nora Cornolle via Submission, rear naked choke, at 1:52 of Round 2
Mic time for Cornolle, she thought she had the armbar in the first but lost it and then thanks her coach for working with her grappling. She talks us through the finish and apologizes for missing weight but some health issues plagued her this time around and she wont let it happen again. To close she calls out Ailin Perez, not unreasonable.

Tresean Gore has gone 2-2 in the UFC but he is on a two fight winning streak and a win here would push his UFC record above the .500 mark for the first time. Marco Tulio is on a nine fight winning streak including his UFC debut in January, he’s looking to continue that streak here and firmly establish himself as a rising prospect in the division. Tulio is a pretty heavy favorite at -550 to Gore’s +410 comeback.
Middleweight Bout: Tresean Gore (5-2, 186 lbs.) vs. Marco Tulio (13-1, 186 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: These two are the same height while Gore has half an inch of reach advantage. They touch gloves to get us going. Jab then a leg kick form Tulio. Tulio with a front kick. Gore blocks a few punches then avoids a spinning back kick. Tulio with a hard calf kick then a right to the body. Body kick from Tulio, he’s flowing thus far. Gore with a jab. They split a few jabs. Right hand then a left from Tulio. Gore lands a right but eats a couple of counters. The commentary is heavily pro Gore, and Tulio then lands a right hand and a couple of body shots to try and get them on his side. Front kick from Tulio. They trade a few more jabs then Tulio lands a right hand. Cut kick from Tulio then a right hand. Gore avoids an elbow but he’s getting hit a lot. Tulio with a right hand then a calf kick. Spinning back kick from Tulio then more body punches. Tulio is just flowing and lands a combination to the body and head. More punches from Tulio then he drops Gore with a left hook and gets on top to land some elbows. Gore fights up but eats a knee. Right hand from Gore. Tulio lands a body kick then a front kick. Gore misses an over hand right then Tulio lands a wheel kick. They feint away the final seconds.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Tulio
ROUND TWO: They touch gloves again. They trade some body kicks. Tulio with a calf kick, then another one. Combination from Tulio then a spinning back kick. One two from Tulio then a left to the body. Tulio just can’t seem to miss with anything. A couple more calf kicks from Tulio, then he tries a front kick but Gore says it went low so we’ve got a time out. Replay confirms the kick went low but Gore only takes 23 seconds to recover. Tulio with another calf kick then front kick. Bit of a left hook from Tulio then a calf kick. Body kick from Tulio then a spinning back kick and a left hook. Good grief, Tulio just can’t miss. Right to the body from Tulio. Double jab then a right hand from Tulio. Tulio with front kicks. Head kick from Tulio stuns Gore, then he knocks him down and gets on top in half guard and drops elbows. Gore gets full guard but Tulio keeps unloading on him as Gore stands. Gore is toast, Tulio lands a couple of stiff lefts then a right hand drops Gore and the ref stops this. Frankly Gore’s corner could have thrown in the towel a little earlier.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Marco Tulio via TKO, punches, at 3:16 of Round 2
Mic time for Tulio and the translator, seems Tulio broke his hand or arm in that fight and he plays with the crowd in English and is very happy to fight in Miami and thanks the UFC brass. He says he hurt his hand in the first round punching Gore in the head but he wasn’t going to stop and has dreamed of this moment. He also calls out Marvin Vettori, seems a bit ambitious at this moment. To close he puts over his team.

Sumudaerji has gone 3-4 in the UFC and is on a three fight losing streak, he really needs to halt this skid with a winning performance. Mitch Raposo dropped his UFC debut via a split decision to Andre Lima last year but now he’s back in action and looking to get that critical first UFC win under his belt.
Flyweight Bout: Su Mudaerji (16-7, 126 lbs.) vs. Mitch Raposo (9-2, 126 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Firstly, shame on Raposo for using Cody Rhodes’ walkout music. One of the girls used Bianca Belair’s theme either last week or the week before and I didn’t care for that either. Sumudaerji is three inches taller with a serious seven and a half inches of reach advantage. They touch gloves to start, both men fighting southpaw. A lot of circling from Raposo. They both show some stance switches but seem to feel best southpaw. Counter right hand then a left hook from Raposo. Bit of a jab from Sumudaerji. Sumudaerji with an inside leg kick. Front kick from Sumudaerji. They both block punches in close. Raposo tries a takedown, he gets to the back standing and they hit the fence then break with a right from Raposo. Bit of a left from Sumudaerji. They both miss lead hand hooks. Calf kick from Sumudaerji, Raposo didn’t like that one. Takedown from Raposo and he gets the ride position briefly but Sumudaerji is up and granby rolls but Raposo stays with him and holds the back. Sumudaerji with a few back elbows before Raposo drives him to the fence. The round ends in the clinch.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Raposo
ROUND TWO: Sumudaerji looks to pressure forward and lands a body kick. Inside leg kick from Sumudaerji. Sumudaerji keeps chopping with the leg kicks. Bit of a one two from Sumudaerji, Raposo answers with a left hand. Raposo goes orthodox, he doesn’t like those leg kicks, then shoots and we get a clinch but they break clean when nothing comes of it. Back to southpaw for Raposo but he’s more open to switching now. Sumudaerji keeps after Raposo with leg kicks then jabs the body. One two from Sumudaerji and Raposo misses his counters, he looped them a bit too much. Leg kick from Sumudaerji. Sumudaerji with a jab then a right hook, he’s finding his range a little better this round. Raposo avoids a wheel kick and gets a quick takedown then they hit the fence as Sumudaerji stands. Raposo is bleeding from the nose. Sumudaerji gets chest to chest then they break. Calf kick from Sumudaerji. Raposo eats a jab then tries a takedown but that stalls on the fence. Sumudaerji fights off a level change and Raposo slips towards the back, they get chest to chest as the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Sumudaerji, 19-19 overall
ROUND THREE: Sumudaerji back to showing the jab and calf kick. Raposo with a bit of a right hook. Sumudaerji with a bit of an elbow in close. A lot of circling from Raposo. Sumudaerji with a couple of jabs, then a bit of a one two. Front kick from Sumudaerji. Raposo hits a takedown but Sumudaerji wall walks right away into a clinch then lands an elbow as they break. Bit of a combination from Sumudaerji. Raposo complains of an inside leg kick going into the groin, replay is a little inconclusive so they have them restart quickly. Left hand from Sumudaerji. Raposo hits a double leg but Sumudaerji bounces up into another clinch, he just doesn’t let Raposo settle at all. Sumudaerji with some elbows in close. Raposo slips to his back but he’s not able to ride Sumudaerji down and Sumudaerji gets chest to chest. Sumudaerji slips free and they reset. Raposo with another takedown but again Sumudaerji bounces right back up into the clinch. Some punches from Sumudaerji in the clinch then an elbow. Another elbow from Sumudaerji. Raposo can’t get a level change going and they’ll end the round in the clinch with Sumudaerji landing a few elbows.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Sumudaerji, 29-28 Sumudaerji overall
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Sumudaerji via split decision (28-29, 29-28 x2)
I’m not really on board with Raposo getting the third, he just didn’t do much damage and that’s the most relevant criteria. Mic time for Sumudaerji and the translator, he puts over his team for their work and feels he’s finally getting back to form after recovering from knee injuries. He thanks his wife for all of her support as well. To close he talks about working hard on his grappling since he came from a striking background.
Sedriques Dumas has gone 3-2 in the UFC and he’s looking to get another winning streak up and running with a win. Michal Oleksiejczuk has gone 7-7 with 1 No Contest in the UFC, he’s also riding a three fight losing streak and really needs to halt that skid if he wants to have a little bit of job security going forward. The odds like Oleksiejczuk at -180 to a +150 comeback on Dumas.
Middleweight Bout: Sedriques Dumas (10-2, 185 lbs.) vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk (19-9 1 NC, 186 lbs.)

Oleksiejczuk looks to feint his way in through kicking distance. Left to the body from Oleksiejczuk. Bit of a left from Oleksiejczuk. A couple of body shots from Oleksiejczuk in close, when he gets into boxing range Dumas doesn’t react well. Body kick from Dumas. Oleksiejczuk misses an uppercut but his pressure is getting to Dumas at this point. Left to the body from Oleksiejczuk. Oleksiejczuk with a left hand. Dumas tries to get the jab going but Oleksiejczuk is not giving him room to operate. Oleksiejczuk with a couple of lefts. Left hand from Oleksiejczuk drops Dumas, he gets on top and starts unloading with elbows and punches until the ref intervenes. A lot of those were blocked but Dumas wasn’t addressing the position and was just covering up.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Michal Oleksiejczuk via TKO, punches and elbows, at 2:49 of Round 1
The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Oleksiejczuk for his work. Mic time for Oleksiejczuk, he says this was the best performance of his career and puts over his teams in Poland and Brazil. He’s doing a little work with the Fighting Nerds and it paid off and he puts them over. He calls this the best moment of his life. To close he says he’s still growing and getting better, then thanks his family for all of their support and all the Brazilians who embraced him when he started training there and calls out Paul Craig. Reasonable call out.
I’ll grant that wasn’t the best stoppage ever but you’ve got to move and off balance, address the position not just cover up. The ref did warn Dumas a few times as well so it wasn’t like that came out of left field.

Darren Elkins has a two fight winning streak going, his first since 2021, and he’s looking to get another win here and prove he’s still got something to offer the UFC. Julian Erosa is also on a two fight winning streak, a win here would be among the higher profile wins of his career and might indicate he’s finding real consistency in the UFC. Erosa is the favorite at -355 while that +280 comeback on Elkins is a really tempting value bet.
Featherweight Bout: Darren Elkins (29-11, 145 lbs.) vs. Julian Erosa (30-11, 145 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Erosa is three inches taller with three and a half inches of reach advantage, Elkins has also hit the 40 year old mark. They touch gloves to get us going. Erosa shows some weapons to dissuade Elkins doing some level changing. Bit of a left uppercut from Erosa. Erosa with a leg kick. Left hook from Elkins then he hits a single leg but Erosa lands an up kick and throws elbows from full guard. Elkins with some punches then he looks to stack and pass but Erosa lands a legal up kick and then kicks Elkins off and lands punches while fighting off a single leg. Some elbows from Erosa then they break. Elkins looks hurt, he’s wobbled and Erosa is jabbing him and backing him up. Knee tap from Elkins but Erosa rolls through to get on top and he lands a knee as they stand. Erosa backs Elkins up, he looks really calm and lands a couple of punches. Jab from Erosa. You know, the corner could intervene here since Elkins still looks out of sorts. Erosa with a jab that off balances Elkins, he’s really not fit to still be in there. Elkins tries a single leg but winds up in a crucifix and eats an elbow before Erosa slips free and lands uppercuts as Elkins stands. Erosa with a jab. Bit of a right from Erosa, he’s backing Elkins up and lands a leg kick then a stiff knee and elbow. Another blow from Erosa drops Elkins, Elkins grabs a low single attempt and Erosa unloads with elbows and hammer fists until the ref gets involved. That could have been stopped a fair bit ealier, and the corner of Elkins really could have thrown in the towel not too long after he fell after that up kick.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Julian Erosa via TKO, punches, at 4:15 of Round 1
The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Erosa for his work. Mic time for Erosa, he’s feeling fantastic and is really happy with three first round finishes. He worked hard to get ready for this fight and feels he’s still in his prime.

Jim Miller is an old war horse at this point and his name is littered across several UFC records, he’s gone 3-1 in his last four fights and is coming off of a win and while he’s unlikely to make a real push towards the top of the division another win would extend his record for most UFC wins. Chase Hooper is on a four fight winning streak with the most recent three being finishes, he’s looking to take out another respected veteran here and prove he’s ready for a step up in class for his next fight. Hooper is among the bigger favorites on the card at -750 to +525 on Miller.
Lightweight Bout: Chase Hooper (15-3-1, 156 lbs.) vs. Jim Miller (38-18 1 NC, 156 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Hooper is five inches taller with three inches of reach advantage and is 16 years younger. Both men fight southpaw to start. They both miss some kicks. Bit of a punch from Miller. Front kick from Hooper. Miller with a glancing left hand. Single leg from Hooper, Miller is able to defend that and tries a guillotine but Hooper rolls back and gives up position to avoid the choke. Miller with a solid punch then avoids a triangle attack. Another punch from Miller before Hooper scrambles up and hits a takedown, Miller is trying a guillotine but Hooper gets his head out. Hooper passes to half guard and gets the backpack position as Miller stands. Body triangle now for Hooper. Hooper tries a choke but Miller defends then pulls Hooper around and gets on top again. Miller with some short hammer fists on top. Hooper tries a triangle but Miller pulls free and passes briefly then stands free and they reset. Front kick from Hooper. Miller avoids a head kick then lands a right hook to close the round.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Miller
ROUND TWO: Hooper looks to get his jab working this round. Both men miss lefts. Miller with a left in close. Bit of a spinning back fist from Hooper then he tries a takedown and gets it against the fence. Miller is after a kimura but that isn’t likely to work on Hooper who starts elbowing the body. They stand, Hooper then steps to the back and gets one hook in as they fall to the mat. Miller stands, Hooper back into the backpack position with a body triangle. Hooper bails on the position to hit a takedown and get on top in side control. Miller to his knees then he scrambles up into a clinch. Hooper looks for a takedown, he hits it against the fence. Miller wall walks then Hooper hits a mat return. Hooper moves towards the back and gets one hook in, Miller stands though and thinks about a kneebar but Hooper blocks that and mat returns Miller. Calf slicer attempt from Hooper, he’s in the truck position and might be after a banana splitter or something similar. Miller is able to stall that out and that’s where the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Hooper, 19-19 overall
ROUND THREE: Spinning back fist from Hooper after he missed a front kick. Miller with a bit of a left hand. Miller blocks a takedown and lands a knee. Jab from Hooper. Hooper with a takedown against the fence and he lands a couple of lefts. Miller wall walks but Hooper is on his back and rides him down then gets one hook in as they hit the mat. Hooper could attack a twister here, then he rolls back into the truck position and looks for a leg attack. There’s a bit of a heel hook variant from Hooper going on, Miller is hand fighting though and breaks it free. Now Hooper works towards the twister and winds up on top in leg drag then Miller gets half guard. A few body blows from Hooper. Miller with some rubber guard work then Hooper passes to half guard again. Not much going on here, Hooper is able to land enough blows to keep the ref out of this until the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Hooper, 29-28 Hooper overall
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Chase Hooper via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28 x2)
I guess there’s an argument for Hooper in the first but I like Miller’s work more. Mic time for Hooper, he was hoping for a more exciting finish but Miller is tough and was countering him pretty well. He is happy to get the win and he’s happy to be here. Asked about the future he wants a younger guy like Firas Ziam or Tom Nolan. Reasonable call outs.
Virna Jandiroba is on a four fight winning streak and given the surprisingly stark nature of the top of this division a win here would likely secure her the next shot at the strawweight title. Yan Xiaonan has gone 3-1 in her last four fights with the only blemish being a failed bid for the title against Zhang Weili, but if she wants another crack at that title she needs to get a win here. Fairly close one here but the odds like Jandiroba at -135 to Yan’s +115.
Strawweight Bout: #3 Virna Jandiroba (21-3, 116 lbs.) vs. #1 Yan Xiaonan (19-4 1 NC, 116 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Yan is two inches taller while Jandiroba has an inch of reach advantage. Some feinting from Yan early as they circle. Jandiroba with some stance switching then she tries a takedown but can’t find it just yet. Bit of a head kick from Jandiroba. Side kick from Yan. Right to the body from Yan. They both land punches in close. Yan with another right to the body then she avoids a takedown. Jandiroba pushes into a clinch, that hits the fence. Jandiroba is really after a headlock throw and eventually gets Yan down into half guard. Yan threatens some guard work but Jandiroba passes through that and settles things. Jandiroba attacks a kimura then passes to side control and looks to spin for the armbar but Yan grabs donkey guard. Some hammer fists from Jandiroba, both women land some strikes but Jandiroba is keeping Yan on the mat. Eventually Yan winds up getting full guard. Jandiroba lands an elbow then stands and grabs a kimura roll then gets the back and continues to attack the arm and nearly gets the armbar before the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Jandiroba
ROUND TWO: Jandiroba back to some forward motion and both women miss kicks. Single leg from Jandiroba then she gets the back and puts a hook in. Jandiroba has a power half nelson for control and lands some elbows. Yan has blocked the second hook but Jandiroba doesn’t seem to need it for control and she lands some punches while working a half nelson. Body triangle now for Jandiroba and she starts fishing for a choke. Some punches and elbows from Jandiroba while she’s trying to open up a choke. Yan’s hand fighting is keeping the choke at bay thus far. Yan works to turn into Jandiroba and she gets on top and swings punches from the guard of Jandiroba. Jandiroba with her guard up high and grabs an armbar, that’s pretty tight but Yan gets her arm past the fulcrum and Jandiroba spins to get on top in side control. Near side armbar attack from Jandiroba, again it’s dangerous but there’s short time and Yan uses her legs to defend. Jandiroba grabs at a leg for a knee bar as the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Jandiroba, 20-18 Jandiroba overall
ROUND THREE: Yan looks to move around and shows the jab. Jandiroba avoids a combination. Yan avoids a high kick. Bit of a left hook from Jandiroba. Yan fights off a takedown but eats a left hook. Right to the body from Yan. Bit of a punch from Yan. Jandiroba tries a takedown, Yan defends then fires a side kick. Single leg from Jandiroba, that hits the fence and she switches to a high crotch grip then Yan with some obvious fence grabbing but she’s taken down anyway. A few punches from Jandiroba as she gets one hook in. A few choke attempts from Jandiroba but Yan is hand fighting well. Jandiroba with some lefts to the head as she just smothers Yan with grappling. Some elbows from Jandiroba now, nothing serious but they’re there. A last armbar attempt from Jandiroba but there’s no real time even though the armbar is fully locked in just before the round ends.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Jandiroba, borderline 10-8 with that late close armbar, 30-27 Jandiroba overall
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Virna Jandiroba via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)
No interview for Jandiroba, that seems a little unfair.
Dan Ige has gone just 1-3 in his last four fights and is on a two fight losing streak, though that’s slightly mitigated by one of those being a fight against Diego Lopes when Ige filled in on fight day and most recently dropping a decision to Lerone Murphy. Ige is trying to defend his top ranking and prove he’s still got what it takes to make a push through the featherweight division. Sean Woodson is riding a six fight winning streak and now finally gets a shot at a ranked opponent, if he can get another win here he wont only crack the top 15 but will prove himself a serious problem for the divisions better fighters. The odds like Woodson at -220 to +180 on Ige, and plus money on Ige is usually a solid value bet.
Featherweight Bout: #15 Dan Ige (18-9, 146 lbs.) vs. Sean Woodson (13-1-1, 146 lbs.)

Ige is looking to get close and he lands to the body. Short right from Woodson. Another jab from Woodson. Bit of a left hook from Woodson. Ige misses a left of his own to close the round.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Woodson
ROUND TWO: Woodson with a jab then a bit of a right uppercut to start the round. Ige just doesn’t react to getting hit and it looks like Woodson isn’t landing but he is. Ige lands a couple of body hooks. Right hand from Ige, then Woodson lands a right of his own. Ige pushes into a clinch but Woodson pushes free pretty quickly. Bit of a one two from Woodson then Ige fires a left hand that partially lands. Short right from Woodson. Body shot from Ige as he’s got Woodson on the fence. Woodson blocks head shots but Ige is landing to the body now. Woodson reaches for a takedown, Ige lands hammer fists and Woodson bails on the takedown and then the ref jumps in. Bad stoppage.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Dan Ige via TKO, punches, at 1:12 of Round 3
The Final Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Ige for his work. Mic time for Ige, he talks about being over a year without a win but now he’s finally getting the rewards from all his hard work. He mentions getting up no matter how many times he’s knocked down. He says the camp was hell as he’s had to spar guys a lot heavier to find people with the frame of Woodson.
Boy do I think this is a bad stoppage. Apparently Ige was up 2-0 on the cards but still, Woodson got done dirty with this one.

Nikita Krylov is on a three fight winning streak but he’s been out of action for over 2 years and that has really stifled his ability to build momentum, but if he can get a win here it could line him up for a very highly ranked opponent next. Dominick Reyes clawed his way back from a four fight losing streak to win his last two fights, if he wants another crack at the light heavyweight title he failed to take from Jon Jones in 2020 he’ll need another win here. Krylov closed at -155 to +130 for Reyes.
Light Heavyweight Bout: #8 Nikita Krylov (30-9, 206 lbs.) vs. #11 Dominick Reyes (14-4, 206 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Reyes is an inch taller while Krylov has half an inch of reach advantage. They touch gloves, Reyes fighting southpaw. A few range finding kicks from Krylov as he stalks forward. Bit of a right hand from Krylov. Stiff jab from Reyes wobbles Krylov for half a second but he recovers quickly. Again bit of a right hand from Krylov. Reyes is starting to snipe his counters since Krylov is kind of blitzing him. Reyes with a slick counter left as Krylov lunges and Krylov is OUT.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Dominick Reyes via KO, punch, at 2:24 of Round 1
The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Reyes for his work. Mic time for Reyes, he says he’s not back he’s better. He puts over Krylov as a tough opponent and solid competitor. Asked about the losing streak he says it sucks but his faith in God and the help of his family got him through it and you need to keep fighting no matter how many times you get dropped and Jesus has your back. He talks us through the finish then says he wants to fight one more time then fight for the belt. Given the state of light heavyweight that’s not actually too unreasonable.
We get our next UFC Hall of Fame inductee announcement, it’s the no brainer call of Amanda Nunes. That’s among the easier calls you could make, hands down deserving.
Bryce Mitchell took some time off after Josh Emmett violently knocked him out and he got a nice get well fight when he returned in December of last year and beat Kron Gracie. Mitchell is looking for another winning streak here while also proving he’s ready to step up in class again. Jean Silva is on a big 12 fight winning streak including being 4-0 in the UFC, this represents his biggest step up in class thus far but a win would be the biggest of his career and could set him up for a high profile run of fights this year. The odds like Silva a fair bit at -200 but +165 on Mitchell has to be a really tempting bet.
Featherweight Bout: #13 Bryce Mitchell (17-2, 146 lbs.) vs. Jean Silva (15-2, 146 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Mitchell is three inches taller with an inch of reach advantage. Southpaw for Mitchell as he presses forward early. Silva tries to egg him on then fires a kick. Mitchell with a punch then a takedown but Silva grabs a guillotine on the way down. Silva is really after that guillotine but Mitchell is hand fighting and is able to pull his head free. Quick wall walk from Silva then a ninja choke attempt while he fights off a takedown then fires an uppercut. A jab from Silva closes the round.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Silva but a close one, I think that guillotine got it for him though

They hit the mat and Mitchell has to tap.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Jean Silva via Submission, ninja choke, at 3:15 of Round 2
Mic time for Silva and the translator after Silva does the barking celebration, he takes the mic and tries English to play with the crowd then goes to Portuguese for the rest to say you can buy Fighting Nerds glasses. I appreciate the self promotion. He talks about thinking the promotion was just talk for him but apparently Mitchell took it seriously and he thinks something is wrong with Mitchell and he hopes he gets right. Asked about the future he wants to fight Diego Lopes if Lopes wins the title. To close he sends love to Mauricio Ruffy and plays a bit with Joe Rogan.

Yair Rodriguez is on a two fight losing streak and has been out of action for over a year, now one of those losses was a title fight but the loss to Brian Ortega in February of last year was a pretty bad loss. Now Rodriguez looks to halt that skid and prove he’s still a top talent in the division. Patricio “Pitbull” Freire is the best fighter that went through Bellator as he racked up title wins across two divisions there and even contended in a third, he is getting to the UFC a little late with 43 fights and at the age of 37 but a win over Rodriguez could set him up for an even bigger fight his next time out. The odds like Rodriguez at -165 to +140 for Pitbull.
Featherweight Bout: Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (36-7, 145 lbs.) vs. #5 Yair Rodriguez (19-5 1 NC, 146 lbs.)
ROUND ONE: Rodriguez is five inches taller with four inches of reach advantage. Both men come out looking to range find. Rodriguez is looking to set up kicking distance as he plays with stance switches. Neither man throws a whole lot for the first full minute, then Rodriguez lands a calf kick. Inside leg kick from Pitbull. Pitbull checks a calf kick then Rodriguez lands a front kick. Jumping kick from Rodriguez is blocked. Pitbull pushes into a clinch and can’t quite hit a foot sweep then they break. Rodriguez blocks a one two. Front kick from Rodriguez. Cut kick from Pitbull then he gets on top in half guard. There’s only about 20 seconds left in the round and they’ll just kind of ice the round in that spot.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Rodriguez
ROUND TWO: Rodriguez blocks a head kick to start the round. Pitbull avoids a few kicks but he really needs to kick his offense into gear. Bit of a left hook from Pitbull, then another one as Rodriguez got close. Rodriguez with some front kicks to try and reestablish distance. Pitbull with some forward motion, Rodriguez doesn’t like that and fires kicks that don’t really land but do get Pitbull to back off. They tie up and Pitbull hits a takedown then Rodriguez wall walks and they separate. Lunging right from Rodriguez. Another bit of a head kick from Rodriguez. Pitbull pushes close but only gets off a glancing right hand. Rodriguez has started using darting punches when he gets close to the fence. One two from Rodriguez. Pitbull gets fairly close but he’s not throwing enough offense. Rodriguez avoids a takedown and they wind up clinched on the fence. Bit of a judo toss from Rodriguez and that’ll end the round.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Rodriguez, 20-18 Rodriguez overall
ROUND THREE: Rodriguez misses a bit of a spinning kick. Pitbull avoids a high kick then they both miss some rights in close. Rodriguez with a bit of a blitz attack. Pitbull lands a left to the body. Bit of a right from Pitbull then a left hand in close. Rodriguez with a body kick. Clubbing right from Pitbull partially lands. Pitbull with a left hook but Rodriguez then drops him with a punch and gets on top in full guard. Some elbows to the body from Rodriguez as he looks to keep up the damage. Elbow to the collarbone from Rodriguez, he’s just unloading with elbows and hammer fists now. Pitbull is working to control posture then grabs an armbar but Rodriguez is able to pull free after that got a little dangerous. Rodriguez stands over Pitbull and fires a punch then ties up the legs and looks for something there, they’re both fishing for leg attacks and neither will really find anything for a bit. Pitbull pulls out of the heel hook and lands a right hand before they stand and reset. Rodriguez just circles and taunts for the final seconds, then misses a wheel kick to close things.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Rodriguez, 30-27 Rodriguez overall
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Yair Rodriguez via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)
Mic time for Rodriguez, he says he’s worked for this kind of a performance and knew Pitbull would be tough and he puts him over in general. He’s focused on what’s next and he wants a title shot next, whoever wins in the main event can meet him in Guadalajara for Noche UFC.
Michael Chandler has gone just 2-4 in the UFC though those losses are to Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje, and Dustin Poirier and all were either title fights or bonus winning efforts. Chandler did piss away two years at the end of his prime waiting on a Conor McGregor fight and then returned to lose a decision to Charles Oliveira last November. Now Chandler finds himself badly needing a win to retain his status as a top ranked fighter, a loss here would pretty effectively end any title aspirations he might have. Paddy Pimblett has an eight fight winning streak going but this fight represents a big step up in class for him, his last two wins were against aging fighters Tony Ferguson and King Green, but a win would put him on the fast track towards a title shot given his fairly high popularity. Pimblett is your favorite at -1355 to +160 on Chandler. Also keep in mind this is a five round fight.
Lightweight Bout: #7 Michael Chandler (23-9, 156 lbs.) vs. #12 Paddy Pimblett (22-3, 156 lbs.)

Bit of a right from Pimblett then a calf kick. Chandler lands a right hand. Some more long range weapons from Pimblett. Chandler avoids a couple of punches then lands a left hook. They split jabs. Some more kicks from Pimblett, nothing really lands but he’s staying busy and trying to maintain distance. Bit of a blitz from Pimblett. Front kick from Chandler meets a kick from Pimblett and Chandler’s kick goes into the groin so we’ve got a time out. Just bad timing there. Pimblett only takes 30 seconds then we’re back to fighting. Bit of a left hook from Chandler, Pimblett with an uppercut but Chandler gets his back and hits a mat return. Pimblett with a few elbows then stands but Chandler takes him back down and jumps to the back but he’s too high and Pimblett shakes him off then gets on top in full guard. Arm triangle attack from Pimblett, he passes to side control on the wrong side and works to move to mount. Chandler blocks the choke so Pimblett fires a few hammer fists. Chandler scrambles but gives up the back. Elbows from Pimblett as he moves towards mount. Chandler gives up the back again and Pimblett starts looking for a choke. Pretty big cut on Chandler’s cheek. Pimblett gets close and hits a mat return then jumps to the back again. Pimblett starts looking for the choke and sneaking in elbows as well. Chandler is just kind of stuck and Pimblett keeps landing strikes as he moves to full mount. Pimblett unloads with punches from mount and back mount, he drops elbows as well and Chandler can’t get free so the ref steps in.
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Paddy Pimblett for TKO, punches and elbows, at 3:07 of Round 3
Heck of an overall performance from Pimblett there. Mic time for Pimblett, he puts over his team and asks if anyone else has more questions of his game. Asked about the future he wants a top five opponent and to eventually get a world title.
Alexander Volkanovski is one of the best featherweights the sport has ever seen, he’s a former champion and his only loss in the weight class was to Ilia Topuria plus he had four successful title defenses and twice challenged for the lightweight belt. He’s also trying to buck a few negative trends here, he’s been finished in his last two fights and is over 35 years old. No man in UFC history has won a title fight at lightweight or lower over the age of 35, and no one in UFC history has come back from back to back finish losses to claim a title in their next fight. Should Volkanovski reclaim the featherweight title here it would be one of the most impressive accomplishments the sport has seen. Diego Lopes brings a five fight winning streak into his first UFC title fight, he’s looking to extend that streak and push out the former champion then he’ll look to begin establishing his own legacy with the title. Very close fight here, -160 on Volkanovski to +135 for Lopes.

Well that’s history there people, first man 35 or older to win a UFC title fight. Mic time for Volkanovski he says it’s good to be back and he’s felt a ton of love leading into this fight. He promised his girls he’d bring the belt back, but now that doesn’t matter he just wanted to prove he can still do this and puts over Lopes as a monster. This moment is incredible and he gives love to the crowd. He says adversity is an opportunity, and he’d be stronger even if he came up short tonight but look at what did happen, this is movie stuff. To close he says he and Rogan need another podcast episode.
Lopes gets an interview with the translator, he does a bit in Spanish and Portuguese to send love to his family in both Mexico and Brazil then says it was an honor to fight Volkanovski and knows he’ll be back. He puts over Volkanovski and while he came up short he will get better and come back to eventually get the title. To close he does some English to thank the crowd.
On that note UFC 314 ended. After a string of less well received events the UFC really needed this one to deliver and it did.
