Bruce Willis is stepping away from his acting career after being diagnosed with aphasia. The Hollywood star’s family issued a statement through daughter Rumer Willis’ Instagram account announcing that Willis has decided to leave acting behind him after being diagnosed with the language disorder.

Aphasia is a disorder that is often caused by strokes or head trauma and manifests in difficulty to communicate. The statement reads:

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.

“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.

“As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan to do just that.

“Love,
Emma, Demi, Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, & Evelyn”

Willis is one of the most well-known stars in Hollywood, having starred in of such films as Die Hard, Moonlighting, Pulp Fiction, The Sixth Sense, and The Fifth Element. While he has appeared mostly in smaller, straight-to-video films in the last few years, his return to the role of Unbreakable’s David Dunn in 2019’s Glass helped propel that sequel to $247 million worldwide. His films have grossed over $5 billion worldwide and he has been nominated for five Golden Globes and three Emmy Awards, with one Golden Globe win (for Moonlighting) and three Emmy wins.

On behalf of 411, our best wishes to Willis and his family.
