Anthony Hopkins’ win for Best Actor over the late Chadwick Boseman shocked a lot of people, but Boseman’s family doesn’t believe it’s a snub. Hopkins won Best Actor at Sunday night’s awards show for The Father, beating Boseman who many expected to be a clear winner for his final performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. The Oscars seemed to think so too, having pushed the acting awards to after Best Picture for the first time, and there was a lot of shock expressed online and offline over Hopkins’ win.

However, Boseman’s brother says that the family is not upset about the loss. Derrick Boseman told TMZ that every actor who was nominated did excellent work and was deserving of the award. He noted that Chadwick didn’t place a lot of value on the Oscars and viewed them more as a “campaign” than anything else.

He added that the family wished Hopkins well, noting, “I”m sure [Anthony] would [do the same] if Chad won.”
