Christina Ricci is returning to the Addams Family, albeit in a different role as she has signed onto Netflix’s Wednesday series. Deadline reports that the actress, who famously played Wednesday Addams in Barry Sonnenfield’s feature films, is set to play a role in the Jenna Ortega-led series.

According to the report, the casting of Ricci comes soon after Thora Birch exited the show due to personal reasons. Ricci is playing a new character similar to the one Birch played, and her character will replace Birch’s.

Ricci, who co-toplined Showtime’s hit series Yellowjackets, joins a cast that includes Ortega as Wednesday, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, and George Burcea as Lurch. Also appearing are Hunter Doohan, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, Emmy Myers, Naomi J. Ogawa, Joy Sunday, Percy Hynes White, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, and Jamie McShane.

Wednesday is described as follows:

“The series will chart the titular heroine’s years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy as she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability. While also thwarting a monstrous killing spree terrorizing the local town and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body.”
