Cobra Kai Star Xolo Maridueña in Talks For DC’s Blue Beetle

DC has found their Jaime Reyes for the HBO Max Blue Beetle movie, and it’s Cobra Kai breakout Xolo Maridueña. The Wrap reports that Maridueña, who plays Miguel Diaz on the Netflix series, is in negotiations to take on the lead role in the DC superhero film.

The film will be the first superhero movie lead by a Latino character and centers on Jamie, who was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner in 2006. Jamie is a teenager from El Paso who received the Blue Beetle scarab after stumbling upon it on his way home from school and having it attach to him, giving him an extraterrestrial armor with the superpowers of the Blue Beetle.

Charm City Kings director Angel Manuel Soto is directing the film, which was written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. No release date has been set at this time.
