Coming To America Sequel Gets Release Date

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the sequel to Coming to America will open in theaters on August 7th, 2020. Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, 2011’s Footloose) is set to direct from a script by Kenya Barris (black-ish). Brewer and Murphy are also working together on Dolemite Is My Name for Netflix.

The original 1988 film is, of course, considered a classic and focuses on Murphy as an African prince who comes to Queens, New York in search of a bride.

Murphy’s only starred in one film over the past five years — 2016’s Mr. Church.
