D23: Incredibles 3 Announced, Brad Bird Developing Sequel
During Friday’s studio showcase for D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Pixar Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter made a huge announcement. The superhero family, the Parrs, will make their return to the big screen with Incredibles 3. Oscar-winning filmmaker Brad Bird, who wrote and directed the first two films, is currently developing the threequel.
Disney and Pixar also revealed the first logo for the film (see above). The first sequel for the franchise, released in 2018, was a huge hit for Disney, grossing $608 million domestically and $1.242 billion worldwide off of a $200 million budget. The 2004 original, The Incredibles, was also a huge hit, bringing in $631 million worldwide. It also won Brad Bird and Pixar the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2005.
Incredibles 3 does not yet have an official release date. The film joins Pixar’s growing slate of sequels to some of its most beloved features, including the recently released Inside Out 2, along with the previously announced Toy Story 5. Disney also has a new badge for the film available at the convention. Incredibles 3 will be released exclusively in theaters later on.
