Danny Boyle, Alex Garland Teaming Up For 28 Years Later
28 Days Later is getting its long-awaited threequel, with Danny Boyle and Alex Garland joining forces for 28 Years Later. THR reports that Garland and Boyle, who wrote and directed the original film, are set to reunite on the third film and potentially a new trilogy. Garland would write all three films, with Boyle set to direct the first. The film is expected to be sent out to potential buyers including studios and streamers this week. The budget for each film would be in the $75 million range, and the two would produce alongside of original producer Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice.
The original film released in 2002 and was a massive hit with $84.6 million worldwide against an $8 million budget and put Garland on the map while inspiring a new generation of zombie movies and shows. Garland and Boyle were executive producers on the 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, which grossed $65.8 million against a $15 million budget.
There have been hopes and rumors of a third film for years, but delays regularly held the sequel up including issues over film rights.
