Darren Aronofsky could be heading into Stephen King’s world, as the director is in talks to direct Netflix’s new take on Cujo. THR reports that the director of Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, and The Wrestler is in discussions to helm the new take on the Stephen King novel.

The project was reported on last week and will be a new adaptation of King’s 1981 novel. Roy Lee (It, Salem’s Lot) is on board to produce the film, which doesn’t yet have a writer.

If Aronofsky takes on the film, it will be his first since his 2022 drama The Whale which earned Oscar nods for Best Supporting Actress and Best Makeup and Hairstyling, as well as a Best Actor win for Brendan Fraser.

The book was previously turned into a film in 1983 directed by Lewis Teague and starring Dee Wallace and Danny Pintauro and was a moderate hit with $21.2 million in box office against a $6 million budget.
