Dave Filoni Named CCO Of Lucasfilm, Is ‘Exploring’ Second Season Of Ahsoka
Dave Filoni, who has been the guiding force behind the latest Disney+ Star Wars shows, has been named Lucasfilm’s CCO. Vanity Fair reports that Filoni said during an interview that he’s been promoted to Chief Creative Officer of the company and will remain EVP as well. Filoni, who was the creative force behind Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, will now work more closely with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and along with the company’s head of development Carrie Beck in moving along the Star Wars universe with new content.
“Now I’m what’s called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm,” Filoni said. “In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways… In this new role, it’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on. When we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase.”
Filoni noted in the interview that he is “exploring a possible second season” of Ahsoka, which stars Rosario Dawson as the titular Jedi. Upcoming series include Skeleton Crew which comes from Jon Watts and Christopher Ford as well as The Acolyte and the second season of Andor. Films are currently in development with James Mangold, Taika Waititi, Shawn Levy and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Filoni is also making his directorial feature debut with a film that will tie together the Disney+ series stories.
“To truly help filmmakers, it was really important for me to experience it firsthand,” Filoni said. “I can also lend a perspective on the challenges that telling these stories will present. I feel more capable of actually being helpful outside of just saying, ‘Well, Jedi are like this, and Sith are like this…’”
In addition to his work on the animated series and Ahsoka, Filoni has served as a producer and writer on The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett. He has also directed episodes of all of the shows.
