David Leitch Says a Streaming Service is ‘Into’ an Atomic Blonde Sequel
Atomic Blonde garnered its fair share of fans when it released in 2017, and director David Leitch says a sequel is still being discussed. Leitch spoke with /Film and said that a follow-up to the stylish 1980s action-thriller, which starred Charlize Theron as MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton, is still in the mix and may get produced by a streaming service. The site notes that they have heard reports of the same.
“I think there is [still talk of a sequel],” Leitch said. “A streaming service is into it. I don’t know all the details. I was a work-for-hire on that movie, but at the end of the day, Kelly McCormick – my producing partner and my wife – she will be involved, I’m sure, as a producer. That’s how I got the gig in the first place. We’ll see.”
The film was popular with fans and critics, and was a success with $100 million worldwide on a $30 million budget — just a bit more than John Wick (which Leitch co-directed with Chad Stahelski). Theron has expressed interest in playing the role again and confirmed last April that a sequel was in the works.
