Producer Confirms Die Hard Prequel No Longer In Development
The planned Die Hard prequel looking at a young John McClane is no longer in development, as confirmed by Lorenzo di Bonaventura. The franchise producer recently confirmed to Polygon during press for Snake Eyes that the planned reboot/prequel is no longer in the works.
“Yeah, no, It’s not happening,” di Bonaventura said. “But what was really interesting was we actually came up with an idea to do it. It was a project that wasn’t Die Hard that then, eventually, shifted over to Die Hard.” That origin would have made the film on par with most of the rest of the franchise, as both Die Hard 2 and Die Hard with a Vengeance had source material which had no connection to the franchise and were reworked to fit within the series.
“What was interesting about our idea was it allowed you the ability to meet the young John McClane and use Bruce,” di Bonaventura said. “So it was really interesting in that way. So you sort of got to see both versions of him. A bit [like The Godfather Part 2].”
THe plans for the film were originally to have Len Wiseman develop and direct the film. The franchise now sits at Disney, having been aqcuired as part of 20th Century Fox, and di Bonaventura said simply, “I don’t know what their plans are” regarding the franchise.
