Cara Dune will not be coming back to The Mandalorian any time soon, as Disney has cut ties with Gina Carano because of her inflammatory posts to social media. Carano, who played Dune on the first two seasons of the Disney+ Star Wars series, will no longer be appearing on the show per a statement that Lucasfilm (owned by Disney) gave to Deadline.

The statement read, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano’s status on the show has been in question for a while now, as she’s courted controversy after controversy on social media. She mocked the idea of people listing their preferred pronouns in their social media profiles last year, took shots at people for wearing masks during the pandemic, and promoted theories about voter fraud following the presidential election. Each time, #FireGinaCarano has gone trending on social media. The last straw in this case appears to have been an Instagram story (now deleted) in which she shared a post which equated criticism of conservatives with Jewish people being assaulted by other Jewish people in the lead up to the Holocaust:

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

According to THR, the MMA fighter-turned-actress had been on thin ice at Disney already for her aforementioned previous controversies, which had cost her a solo spinoff series. The site reports that Disney was planning the spinoff before her mask mocking and election fraud comments in November caused them to scrap those plans. “They have been looking for a reason to fire her for two months, and today was the final straw,” a source told the site. Carano’s agency UTA have also confirmed that they are no longer representing her.

The move has been a big topic on social media, where #CancelDisneyPlus is currently trending. However, it must be noted that while there are certainly no small number of people legitimately joining in the call for a boycott, most of the top posts of the trend are more along the below lines:
