Star Trek: Discovery has found its Spock. Ethan Peck will play the iconic role in the second season of the series, as announced on Tuesday. Peck is the grandson of multi-time Academy Award nominee (and one-time winner) Gregory Peck and has appeared in Madam Secretary, and Gossip Girl. Leonard Nimoy originated the role of Spock in the original Star Trek series and all of the original continuity films and spin-offs. Zachary Quinto then took on the role in the reboot films.

“We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role,” showrunner Alex Kurtzman said in the announcement. “An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning. Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack, and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy. In that spirit, we’re thrilled to welcome him to the family.”

The second season of Star Trek: Discovery will see the Discovery crew meet up with Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the Enterprise before James T. Kirk took it over. Spock was one of Pike’s crewmen.

Leonard Nimoy’s son Adam posted to Twitter to congratulate Peck, as you can see below:
