Fear not, dire wolf fans…we will see Ghost in the final season of Game of Thrones. Visual effects supervisor Joe Bauer told HuffPost that Jon Snow’s dire wolf, who has been conspicuously absent for a while, will be present for a lot of season eight.

“Oh, you’ll see him again,” Bauer said. “He has a fair amount of screen time in Season 8. He does show up…The direwolves are tough because you don’t want to get them wrong, so we end up always shooting real wolves and doing a scaling trick with them, but the real wolves only behave in certain ways…I think that has something to do with why the direwolves are in the show but they’re not maybe as integral as they are in the books.”

As of now, there are only Ghost (Jon’s wolf) and Nymeria (Arya’s) still alive in the show. Nymeria last appeared in season seven in a brief enounter with Arya.

Bauer said nothing on Nymerya’s fate in the series, but said, “Ghost does show up, and he does some … he’s very present and does some pretty cool things in Season 8.”

The show returns on HBO next year.
