Hawkeye is coming to Disney+ as a series, but the original plan was to do it as a feature film. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige told Bloomberg for a new feature on the streaming service that when he originally put together a meeting of much of the Avengers cast when they were in Los Angeles for Infinity War’s film premiere and pitched the various Disney+ series to them, and his idea for a series based around Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye was the one that he was nervous about, as there was a deal with the actor to make it a film.

Feige said that he was concerned that Renner would have issues with his film project coming to the small screen, but was relieved when the actor turned out to be fine with that idea. “He totally got it and said, ‘Let’s do it,’” Feige told the outlet.

The series will see Renner play Clint Barton as he teams up with Kate Bishop, the younger Hawkeye in the comics, and is set for Fall 2021. Hailee Steinfeld was reportedly offered the role but recently downplayed the idea, saying, “That’s not something that’s necessarily happening. We’re going to wait and find out, I guess.”
