HBO President Says Westworld Is Not For Casual Viewers

In an interview with TVLine, HBO President Casey Bloys spoke about the apparent backlash against the dense story of Westworld, which drew complaints of being “bloated” and “indulgent” after the season two finale aired earlier this month.

He said: “I’m not sure I would agree that the backlash was widespread. What I love about Westworld is the people who love it really love it. Even the people who dislike it [want to discuss it]. For a show to arouse that kind of feeling, that’s what we want. [It] is not for casual viewers. It requires your attention. It’s a unique show and that’s what we look for.“
