It: Welcome To Derry Showrunner Tapped To Take Over Crystal Lake Series
Brad Caleb Kane is moving from one horror series to another, taking the reigns of the Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake. Deadline reports that Kane, who served as co-showrunner on Max’s It: Welcome to Derry series, has come on board Peacock’s Crystal Lake show as showrunner, creator, writer and executive producer.
Kane takes over the series from Bryan Fuller, who exited the project in May due to A24 wanting to “go a different way with the material.” Welcome to Derry wrapped filming at the start of the month. Kane is joined by A24, Victor Miller, Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian and Robert P. Barsamian as executive producers on the show.
“From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask,” said Kane in a statement. “Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than Friday The 13th. I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.”
Crystal Lake has been in development at Peacock since 2002, when it received a straight-to-series. Details on the plot are not yet known, though the version under Fuller was described as an “expanded prequel” to the original and would feature Jason Voorhees and his mother Pamela. Adrienne King, who played Alice Hardy in the first and second film, was signed for a recurring role in the planned series.
