In a move that surprisingly hasn’t happened before now, Stephen King’s novel about vampires in a small Maine town is finally getting a theatrical adaptation. Deadline reports that James Wan is set to produce the film based on King’s 1975 novel, along with Roy Lee and Mark Wolper. Gary Dauberman (IT) will write the script and executive produce.

The story follows a writer named Ben Mears, who returns to the town of Jerusalem’s Lot to write his next novel, only to discover that the residents are turning into vampires. It was previously adapted twice for television in 1979 (directed by Tobe Hooper) and 2004. The 1979 miniseries got a little-seen sequel, A Return to Salem’s Lot, in 1987, which had a limited theatrical run before going to video.
