DC’s Madame Xanadu is preparing for her live debut, with an HBO Max series in the works from JJ Abrams and Angela Robinson. THR reports that Robinson will write and executive produce the series, which Abrams will produce through his Bad Robot production shingle.

The site notes that Abrams and his wife and Bad Robot partner Katie McGrath personally recruited Robinson over to Warner Bros. TV so that she could write and supervise the series, which is titled Madame X. The show is still in the early development stage and no casting or story details have been revealed yet.

Madame Xanadu was created by David Michelinie and Michael William Kaluta, first appearing in February 1978’s Doorway to Nightmare. More modern stories revealed her to be Nimue Inwudu, the youngest sister of Arthurian characters Morgaine Le Fay and the Lady of the Lake. Xanadu is an immortal sorceress with romantic ties to Merlin. During her time in DC continuity, Xanadu has been involved in several groups including the Sentinels of Magic, the Demon Knights, and the Justice League Dark. She has also aided the Suicide Squad several times.

Abrams and Bad Robot are developing several series including Justice League Dark and Constantine. While it is not confirmed, it is considered likely that the series will exist in the same universe.
