Joker Projected To Top Aquaman and Shazam Box Office Openings

Box Office Pro reports that DC’s Joker is likely to top Aquaman‘s $67.8 million opening weekend and Shazam‘s $53.5 million opening weekend. The film is being projected to land at $77 million for its opening weekend.

The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Joker and will be premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival and Venice Film Festival later this month. Unlike most comic book movies, Joker is getting some early Oscar talk for Phoenix and has received comparisons to past Martin Scorsese movies such as King of Comedy.

Todd Phillips is directing from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Silver (The Fighter).

The film opens October 4th.
