Kevin Smith has a theory that one of the deaths in Avengers: Infinity War in particular may be reversed. Smith discussed Loki’s death on his Fatman Beyond podcast, particulary a popular fan theory that Loki didn’t actually die in the film.

The fan theory, as resented on Reddit, goes as follows. When Loki tries to kill Thanos, he uses his left hand to stab at the Titan. However, he is right-handed and has traditionally held weapons in his right hand. The sole exception is when he fakes his own death in Thor: The Dark World and is holding the dagger in his left hand. The theory is that the left-handed Loki is a “mirror” Loki, and the real deal is still in fine shape.

Asked about the theory, Smith said, “You’ve got a point, because I’m sitting there watching…I re-watched Infinity War again last night and I was like, I can’t believe they killed f**king Loki…Last night when I was watching it, [there’s a] line I hung on, which is where he goes, ‘The sun will shine on us again brother,’ and then he gets killed and Thor should have been like, ‘I guess you were wrong, f**k!’ But you know, he doesn’t and that made me think like maybe there is a play here and stuff.”

Tom Hiddleston is notably reprising his role as the trickster in a planned MCU-set limited series on Disney’s streaming service. He is not, as of now, confirmed to appear in Avengers 4.
