Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series hasn’t even begun full principal production yet, and already it has a second season. Deadline reports that the upcoming series has been renewed by Amazon, who have brought the writers back in to begin scripting the second go.

It’s an incredibly early renewal for the series, which is currently in pre-production in New Zealand. The renewal will allow for a shorter time off between seasons one and two when the show debuts on Amazon Prime. The series will now go on a four to five month hiatus after filming the first two episodes and come back with the second season already in mind, allowing them to potentially film the seasons back to back.

J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are serving as showrunners on the series, which is set during long before the events of the books and stars Will Poulter, Markella Kavenagh and Joseph Mawle.
