As you may have heard, Earth’s mightiest heroes and Marvel Studios claimed the highest domestic and worldwide opening weekend records. Avengers: Infinity War opened to $640.9 million worldwide, with $258.2 million domestic and $382.7 million international. The previous worldwide record-holder was The Fate of the Furious ($541.9 million) and the previous domestic record-holder was Star Wars: the Force Awakens ($258 million).

In a new post on social media, Lucasfilm congratulated Marvel Studios on the achievement. As you can see, Lucasfilm has passed the torch (or lightsaber, in this case) to their in-house competition at Disney.

The Force Awakens previously took the record from Jurassic World in 2015, which resulted in Universal congratulating them. Before that, it was held by Marvel, with The Avengers. It remains to be seen if Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom can pull off a huge opening weekend again when it debuts on June 22.
