Melissa Barrera On How Scream 6’s New York City Setting Adds New Element To The Horror

The Scream franchise is headed to New York City for its sixth entry, and Melissa Barrera has revealed how the move out of Woodsboro has changed the situation. Barrera is returning as Samantha in the sixth film, and said in an interview with Collider that the new setting gives the horror a new dynamic because there’s no one willing to step in and help against Ghostface.
“It’s like 20 times more mortifying,” Barrera said. “It’s awful. Because you also see how, in a city like New York City, everyone is kind of doing their own thing, and someone is screaming for help, and no one will come to their help. No one comes to help them, you know, like, everyone’s kind of like, ‘I’m not getting into that.’ So it’s mortifying because you’re chased by Ghostface, but you also see humanity and how that reacts in a situation like that. Anyway, I think I’ve already probably said too much.”
The new film will bring back the cast members from January’s Scream including Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Courteney Cox. Newcomers to the franchise include Samara Weaving, Delmot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, and Josh Segarra. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are bgack to direct the new film, which is set to release on March 31st, 2023.
